That's not real dancing! Its just hitting colours!!!!
Well it is dancing though. Guitar Hero has absolutely nothing to do with
playing guitar

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
Let's just get this straight...
My 11-year old nephew is a complete video-games NUT that plays this game any chance he gets, yet he loves playing his real guitar and loves listening to Vai, Gilbert, Slash, etc.
Hell, this game has cool songs that some kids may not have heard of before and it may make them dig that song out on youtube. From there they may think "You know, it'd be pretty cool if I could play this for real" and then maybe we can get a few more musicians in the world (whether or not that's a good thing or not is subjective.)
But guys... it's just a video game, it didn't rape your gran, it didn't spill your pint and it didn't give you an STD, so just lighten up and let the kids have their fun ok? They aren't kids for ever, so don't be hurrying them to grow up

You don't sound like an ass, but remember we DIDN'T have Vai, etc. we had to search them out. We had Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Rick Astley... just like today's kids have Britney, Justin, etc.

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
I've played Guitar Hero III and I'm bothered by the fact that I can play the real thing (e.g. Metallica: One, Slayer: Raining Blood, Sex Pistols: Anarchy in the UK) better than I can on that plastic guitar controller on easy!!!
( But yeah its super fun, no looking up tabs and **** to learn songs, only five frets, one string = win

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
I'm amazed at the hatred some have for Guitar Hero. I think anyone with this sort of hatred for the game is seriously over-reacting.
I've only got the first Guitar Hero, and it is great fun. I'd love to get the others but don't have the money for them right now. It's great fun to play whether you are playing along with friends, or by yourself.
If you seriously think it is going to stop children wanting to play real guitar, I think you are over thinking it way tooooo much. If kids really want to play guitar this is not going to convince them not to.
My cousin played it at my place and loved, couldn't get enough. He's been wanting to learn guitar for years now. For his twelfth birthday my Uncle took him to the
music store
with me and we found his first guitar, and I am teaching him. He is picking it up all quite quickly and loving it.
If we go by the logic that by playing Guitar Hero, the game will turn kids off playing the real thing I'll use my cousin in another example. He loves cricket, he plays in an under 14s cricket team and is a spin bowler. His has an XBox 360 and has a new cricket game for it. He plays it heaps. Has it stopped him from playing the real thing? No.
It just seems that now there is a game that incorporates guitars to some extent, people who play guitar are jumping up and down kicking up dirt about how it will end
guitar playing
. If anything it will encourage people who have thought about playing guitar to go and pick up a real one.

You guys sound like my wife. Its a fcking GAME. I think its cool as hell they made a game geared towards
guitar players
. WHo cares if you can play the songs for real or not. My wife was saying the same sht to me when I told her I wanted the game. She got it for me for Christmas and has played it more than me and we both play

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
I bought this for my nieces - I don't think they've had the chance to play it yet with the way their parents have taken to it.
All of the above naysayers answer this honestly: HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE NEVER EVER PLAYED AN
AIR GUITAR
IN FRONT OF THE TV???
Gotcha.

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
Uh, yeah, it's a game. Let kids have some fun; they are kids. Including Elcid.
And let's not overreact without any facts.
My nephew (10) never showed an interest in playing guitar (he did take piano lessons because his sisters did) until he started playing guitar hero. Now he plays real guitar because he got turned onto it by listening to songs that I grew up on that his generation wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. In fact, at his sister's high school they have guitar hero competitions.
And I've read several articles lately about
:
1) how the younger generation(s) is digging on 80's rock now *because* of guitar hero.
2) that there are a whole lot of kids now taking guitar lessons *because* of their exposure to guitar hero.
I can't see how any of that is a bad thing. Exposing people to music, however it is done, I believe is a good thing.
Besides, we need *any* kind of antidote we can for the tripe that is on the radio these days, right?

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
To each their own
Personally I have no appeciation for this game and it is absolutely NOTHING like playing real guitar at all. I've had quite a busy schedule lately and the spare time I have for is going completely for the "real deal"
I've been getting a kick out of this old hippie biker friend I have. He bought the game and now, even though he's never picked up a real guitar in his life, he brags about what a great guitarist he is
He's living an illusion
If you wanna be a "guitar hero" get a REAL guitar and practice and write music
It's MUCH more rewarding!
No hatred from me and I'm not dissing the game at all, but rathing expressing my opinion.
Like I said, to each their own

Hey, back in the day, it was Pacman and Asteroids, etc., so at least this seems like progress.

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!
It does turn kids on to real music. Thats one really good thing about this game. Most kids would have never heard any of the classic rock in Guitar Hero if not for the game. I wonder if it will create any kind of resurgence of that kind of music, or sell any of those old albums.
