Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!

I was given this game for my birthday last November. I think I've played it all of five minutes since then. Seems it was a wasted gift. I've got too many real guitars I'd rather play.

Now if I wasn't a guitar player I might actually like it. But if I'm gonna be on my PS2 it's probably gonna be Madden, ATV Off Road Fury, or mindless killing and running from the cops in San Andreas.

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!

I suck realy badly at all known versions of guitar hero so for that reason I am going to join the side of the haters.

I'm thinking of starting a focus group where we can all sit down and discuss how terrible the game is. Just think of the other things our kids could be doing, for instance there are plenty of games out there where you get to shoot people through the head and then there's than Man Hunt game where you get to viscously murder people...........

.....Uhm, I'm getting confused. Is this a realy terrible game ?

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!

I'll bet they had similar discussions like this when kids put down the saxophone, trumpet, and clarinet and picked up the Les Paul and Fender Precision. "Harry James and Glenn Miller will come back around, you'll see kids will be drawn back to the saxophone because of this new electric twanger." When I was a kid the guitar was like a video game it was so exciting...playing baseball was exciting, climbing trees and exploring the woods were exciting. There are less children playing organized sports today than 30 years ago, I'll bet the same is true for guitar. Children today are more obese than 30 years ago as well. Think that's because it's easier to sit on your butt and play football on TV than it is to go out and hone the skill necessary to compete. There are very few LOSERS in a video game, your character is muscular no matter how tubby, or uncoordinated the individual playing is. Glenn Miller, the saxophone, sports obsessed kids, it's not coming back. I am not a lover of video games at all, because I feel they make you a bystander/spectator, and hinder you from becoming a participant in life! We are a lazy country, a great and free country, but very apathetic and lazy...and if there is an easy way out, unfortunately we'll take it...

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!

I've actually been playing Guitar Hero and more recently Rock Band whenever I'm with my friends lately, and I have to say its a lot of fun. I'm getting pretty good, and I can actually play okay on hard and expert now. I did get pretty pissed off at first when I started playing it though, and I think that was because I felt like I was being ripped off because my friends were much better than me, and I felt like I sucked even though I could play just about all of the songs on real guitar. I realized it was because out of all the hours I've put in with the guitar didn't make any difference with the game- and that they didn't understand all the practice it would take to actually nail some of those solo's perfect like that. Once I realized why I got pissed off I didn't really care anymore and just had fun with it. I do think that it is getting a lot of the teenagers into the 70's and 80's music which is one of the best era's for music ever. I don't think they would've gotten into it otherwise- and I also think some people are actually starting to appreciate the music and how great some of the players were back then compared to now, where a lot of the music is Drop-D power chords and screaming.

With all that being said- I'll never buy guitar hero or rock band because it'd be too easy to get detached from real guitar, and I probably wouldn't practice as much- but then again I feel the same way about all video games. I think video games are great and fun- but I just think if I happened to own an xbox or a playstation that I'd spend WAY too much time on them. I've thought about getting a Wii though since they seem to be aimed towards the more casual gamer- and it would be fun when people came over.

Been there... done that ... failed miserably.

Once it gets to the point where you actually have to slow down the song to practice it, it's not so fun anymore...

I thought it was better on hard, still room for spin jumps off the coffee table

Re: Show your appreciation for...GUITAR HERO!

haha! that reaction was totally unexpected!!!

i have to say, out of my close circle of friends im the only one who plays an instrument, so its cool to often be beaten on a song that in real life u can play behind ur ehad with the strings on fire!

The game is a helluva lot of fun at parties and stuff where there may or may not be alcohol involved, and be careful the buttons can get sticky!

i dunno what it is with GH haters, there must be some free time where u arent playing real guitar, and if u decide to play a video-game, would u rather it was a game ABOUT guitars? if u really do love them so much?

Also let me point out that the game is about being a guitar hero, not simply playing guitar, so while the button sequences are really easy u have time to give a peace sign, stick the guitar behind ur head, strum with ur nose, bend down and set it on fire, play with ur feet, do the steve vai spinaround manouver(wireless guitar only), or do any of the trademark little dances of your favourite GUITAR HERO! i like to windmill personally, or the angus young thing

oh, and i learned a lot of the songs on the real life guitar, just incase my friends bet me, i could instantly whip out "carry on my wayward son" and make their faces melt!
