Singing?

Do any of you have any tips when it comes to vocals in a typical rock band? I've never tried to sing, but I'm very interested in learning to do so. Are lessons worth it? I don't need to become some opera singer, just good enough to sing in a classic rock/hard rock setting.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

Re: Singing?

I took music theory in HS and sight singing was a required part of it.
One of the main excersizes we did was play triads on a piano and then sing them.

Thanks Cid

Do you sing each individual note of the triad? OR just try to match the overall pitch?

Re: Singing?

each individual note
we did major, minor, diminished and augmented triads
then major, minor, harmonic and melodic minor scales.

I hate the sound of my voice, but people in the class said I made improvements, and was actually able to sing by the end of the year.

Same here. I'm in AP Music Theory right now, and we've been singing a lot. Thankfully, I have experience.

Wade, the first thing you need to do is find out what vocal range you have. You can have a deep speaking voice and be a tenor, or have a high speaking voice and be a bass. Your vocal range has nothing to do with how high or low you speak.

Re: Singing?

Yeah, I'm in a Studio Performance/Production course, and I think we might get into singing a little, but I'm unsure.

Thanks
