Skateboard... anyone?

as an '80s kid and huge nostalgic freak, i always got actracted by skateboard, mainly the old school style heroes like Bones Brigade's Mullen, Hawk, Caballero, Vallely, McGill, Guerrero, Welinder etc. not to mention the colors and cool graphics from the days, after all that's a JEM fans site, isn't it?

any skateboarder here? please no longboard, snowboard or rollerblades... just pure skateboard.

Re: Skateboard... anyone?

I use to skateboard but I broke my board and never bought a new one, It also took me a long time to learn tricks since before then I had already broken both wrists and elbows and had internal bleeding in one arm. So I was very cautious haha

I used to until I decided that having a gaping wound in the crown of hair was not a nice feeling

Started riding about 13 and was sponsored by the Vision "B" team in '86. When Steve Rocco left Sims to start World Industries, I left Vision with Mark Gonzales to join Blind. From there I rode for Blind, Venture, Spitfire, Swatch, and Skate Rags. I retired from competition in 1990.

You name the skater for the '80's and chances are I skated with him.

I always wanted to skateboard, sadly the only trick I had nailed was a face plant.

Re: Skateboard... anyone?

Mark was an incredible skater, and I saw him pull things that just seemed impossible. I always hung with Mark, and Jason Lee when on the west coast.

I could bore you guys with pages of stories, and it is only a wonder that I am not dead or in prison with some of the stuff we pulled.

I laugh with my wife about it now, that Tony (Hawk) has his own video games, Jason (Lee) is an actor, and here I am living a normal life with a wife and two kids...

Wow Ayrton!!! That's crazy! I used to skate like crazy, and skated with quite a few "famous" skaters, too, but to be sponsored by Blind, Venture, and Spitfire would be a dream. I pretty much only used venture trucks and spitfire.

That is pretty damn cool Ayrton, you need to put some old pics up here!

Jason really needs to pull out the old deck on My Name is Earl sometime, that would be really cool.

Re: Skateboard... anyone?

I gave away all my old magazines about a year ago. I had Thrasher all the way back to '84 I think...

I do have some photos somewhere, but most everything else is long gone.

I do however have a complete deck in my garage, and I ride it about once a month. My nephew is getting into skateboarding, and I have suddenly become the really cool uncle.

I used to skate a bit in high school but I wasn't very good. It was a cool thing to do after school until I discovered that eating it hurts really bad.

Re: Skateboard... anyone?

I can barely stay upright with both feet on the ground, and that's before I've had a drink. Me + skateboard = bloodletting.

Always envied the guys who could though.
