You have to remember that at these depots they have conveyor belts running 3 stories high and when they get jammed up it rains big boxes.

I think Fedex might want it after they pay $1500 for it
Ditto what Rich is saying about the high conveyor tracks. I've talked to my UPS driver about this before after I had a damage claim. If the belt becomes jammed it can rain down packages from extreme heights.

HERE IS MY NEW SOLUTION (or at least...a quick fix that will make me feel better). If I could get everyone to call 1-800-gofedex, and ask to speak with Jackie Conley in the Cargo Claims Department, and ask her why they have denied a valid claim for case#1124626293, that would be great. Don't forget to tell her your future plans about which carrier you'll use to send packages from now on. I figure, 3-400 calls might do something.
I'll make the call, all of us should. I think this is bullsh*t! If you bought the insurance, they need to pay the claim. I'll never use Fedex again...

Oh man ouch.
I work at Fed-Ex as a package handeler and as much as I would like to say this suprises me, unfourtunatly it doesn't.
Since boxes that shape almost always get sorted as ICs they have special low to the gound belt, only about 3 feet so the belt pickers can pick them off and put them onto your IC rolllers so it probably didin't have a chance to fall from any terminal height (though many smaller packages do). I'm thinking it was probably loaded into the belly of a trailer, into which packages are just dropped into carelessly most of the time, and a much heavier package was probably dropped down onto it. Or it fell out of a truck, I'm not sure if that happens though.
That sucks , though I can't imagine the UPS facility being too much different.
Although that thing looks like it was barely padded, if I was to ship a Satch thorugh Fed-Ex I would deffinitly bundle that bastard up like it was an egg.

It is not the damage that surprises me, it is the denial of the claim.

Neither surprise me [and for the 10th time it's absolutely g force trauma from a very long drop].

I came down sick as a dog yesterday [yea, happy new year!] but as soon as my head clears and I stop sleeping every 2 hours, I'll be calling her to make her send out a real Fedex inspector. [if possible].

Re: So you think Fedex is better than UPS? ;)

FYI I made my daily call to FedEX today. Annette Webb is Jackie Conley's boss, and Forrest Luster is Anette Webb's boss...for anyone wishing to help me ruffle some feathers. They work 8am-5pm central time 800-463-3339. Funny how when I asked to speak with Forrest Luster, I was encouraged to try and get ahold of Jackie Conley, so that she has a chance to resolve the matter. I said, "She had a chance. What...is she going to change her mind and approve the claim?" I was told "you never know."

Oh, and thanks Rich for your help. You're a good man.

Bastards. Hope Rich can settle it.

Have you posted this on other forums? Everyone should know about this. A guitar-community boycott could be in store (and be sure to let FedEx know that it pissed off a community).

Please, NOBODY CALL FEDEX!!!!

Matt, you're just shooting yourself in the foot. That's something you do after all possible avenues have been taken, and this is far from that point. The only thing any non essential, non claimant party calls to FedEx will do is PISS OFF THE PEOPLE YOU'RE TRY TO CONVINCE TO APPROVE YOUR CLAIM!

I would recomend you edit that information out of your posts ASAP.

Re: So you think Fedex is better than UPS? ;)

They have decided to give him a 50% claim citing it was 50% his fault for not having 3-4 INCHES of bubble wrap surrounding it. I have advised him to refuse it. I called the claims [bitch] and told her there was no way this was only dropped 3-4 feet, this was a massive G force explosion, and that it was sufficiently padded to withstand a drop of 5' [I think that's their rule anyway], but, that it was in it's original manufacturers hardshell case and needs absolutely NO further protection by their rule. All it must be is in it's original hardshell case, no extra padding is needed to withstand a drop of 5', and no amount of padding [within reason] would have made a difference in the G forces this experienced. It is 100% FedEx fault and FedEx is 100% culpable for the damage. She pretty much gave me the "thanks for calling, we'll add this to the notes on the claim" blowoff bullsh!t at which point I called Matt and told him to make sure to call her later and deny the 50% "settlement". Once you have them willing to pay and assume blame, it's not that much more fight to get them to pay what they actually owe.

I can't believe FedEx is making him go through all this crap even when he has paid for the insurance. What Insurance with now just offerring 50% coverage?! That is a punch below the belt! I hope Matt keeps fighting them on this.
