some recent photos (hi-res not point/shoot)

There are alot of good photography threads here and i'll start one and occasionally update it for those interested. This one is in reference to pseudo-dslr wiht teenie-tiny sensor vs a real dSLR... glen

Equipment
* Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM
* Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
* Canon EOS-5D (that is a full-frame 35mm sensor)

shot in RAW, small exposure tweaks in lightroom, exported as JPG 92 quality. no noise reduction or other photoshopping, layering or nonsense.

2000 pixel height or width filesize contraints to fit filesize restrictions.

the LARGER SIZE image links are about 50% reduced resolution from the actual image.

all walkaround shots taken in less than 5 seconds start to finish. no tripods, etc.

100% crop - this is cropping everyting out but a small postage-stamp like part of the photo. it is 1:1 pixel showing actually what the camera captured, pixel by pixel. this is used to see the definition or quality (or lack thereof) in the fine detail

This one had slight rush-job photoshopping out of a swimmer.

Cool Glen, I like the crazy golf one best - very nice, short depth of field. Did she sink the putt?

You got a 5d! Very cool. The first and last photos are really nice. Colors are excellent.

Re: some recent photos (hi-res not point/shoot)

thanks... i picked up the 5d prior to the trip. too much temptation & the timing right w/ decent pricing (just gotta suck up the finances & cut back superfluous spending for a bit. hehe.)

i have some more putt photos i'll post so you can see the reaction

Glen, nice shots. my fav is the golf one. is that your daughter? very cute shot. that photo says a lot. nice camera as well. i'm thinking of the 40D to go along with my 30D and selling my 20D.

nice shots. she's a cutie. looks like you guys had a great trip! the only thing i would recommend would be fill flash to get the shadows off her face and really bring her out. other than that, nice!

that looks like a nice camera for a casual upgrader or new dSLR buyer but where do feel the 40D would improve your photos over the 20D? i'm not sure you'll gain much, except 2MP w/ same noise if you do large prints? i think with your work used 1DmkII or 5D would be more useful and a better long term investment. i'd dump the 30D myself given it's resale vs the 20D and near identical feature set.

i don't have a flash but i will pick one up eventually and play with it for outdoor use... i really need one but i can see it going unused due to hassle & lug it around factor i tend to like contrasty photos w/o flash (even indoors) but i will playaround in lightroom if the "fill" can come up... glen

Re: some recent photos (hi-res not point/shoot)

That's awesome. I'm starting to get into this whole photography thing.

These are some pics I shot with the camera I got for my girlfriend for her birthday. It's a point and shoot, a Canon SD870, but it takes great pictures...

Re: some recent photos (hi-res not point/shoot)

Speaking of flash I just pickup up one of these.....

It's a reissue of an old school flash. There's lots to learn but I'm loving it so far. I plan to buy another and mount them on light stands with umbrellas and remote triggers and do the whole Strobist thing.

Re: some recent photos (hi-res not point/shoot)

damn Rotti, that is old school. hehehe. i use flash all the time. Glen, like you, i'm not a fan of flash, but there are times when it is needed, even outside. when indoors, based on the situation, i use bounce flash most of the time. maybe i will look into the 5D. i will have to read the reviews. there are many features on the 30D that the 20D doesn't have, not to mention, a larger lcd, which is VERY nice.

Re: some recent photos (hi-res not point/shoot)

don't read about the 5D or you'll be itching to get one. it took me almost 2 years of serious restraint to not get one when it was announced and reviews came in hehe.

i'll do some flash hunting and let you know... i need FLASH FILL capability (not studio-type setup pure M mode) which limits you to a few canon & Metz flashes... glen
