Songs to play at Jazz audition

So I'm finaly doing it, I've applied for the Bachelor of music (Jazz specialization). I'll have an audition either next month or the month after and I need some songs to play. The guidlines say to choose a diverse set of songs, the audition is 20 -30 mins including an interview so I guess that's maybe 3 or 4 songs I need to play. So far I've decided on these because I allready know them pretty well...

Chick corea electic band - Got a Match?

Frank Gambale - Frankly Speaking

I'll probably have to play my arse off because I'm completely self taught and have no references at all.

Any suggestions?

Re: Songs to play at Jazz audition

Can you tell the difference between major and minor chords (and 7ths), and major and minor scales when played to you on another instrument? That's a common part of some interviews. You sit in one spot, and they'll play you something on the piano.
If you can read, and are telling them so, practice that until your test. They may listen to you play and choose a "similarly difficult" piece from a folder or stack of standards and ask you to play that. Be prepared
Just practice your listening and reading skills, and you'll be fine.

Maybe Green Dolphin Street? Anything you can get accurate Joe Pass music (or tab) for would be worth considering.

Good Luck!

I've got a heap of Joe Pass tabs, I'll have a look through them and the real books.

1- Giant Steps
2- Night In Tunisia
3 -Take The A Train
4- Four

These were my audition pieces in 1975 into the Jazz School at University Of Bridgeport. Extremely tough pieces, but you will turn heads if you can get them down!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate you!! I wish you the best of luck! It takes courage to take the steps you are taking when you are self taught. I'm sure that something like this has to be intimidating. I applaud your courage and wish you all the best at your audition! Lots and lots of luck to you!

Thank you, I'm going to be nervous as hell on the day but usually I play better when I'm nervous for some reason.

Jemaholic, you're scaring me, you mean learn ALL of giant steps? I allready know the intro but I couldn't imrov over those changes for the life of me.
