Space Shuttle & Space Station
Go to this website to see when you'll be able to watch the shuttle and space station fly overhead. I watched it tonight and I have to admit I am excited. It was very easy to spot and watch for about three minutes. The two are flying at 17000 MPH!!!
There are still several opportunities this week to watch the shuttle before it lands. Go to the site:

Wow such hostility. Regardless of your political agendas, bring a seven year old out to watch it and see if you still want to fling poo at my thread.

Re: Space Shuttle & Space Station
I agree with Glen on this one. NASA is still using old technology to send people into outer space with those shuttles that keep on falling apart. Design wise? Well, I think it's time to move away from the plane design and come up with more radical and out-of-the box ideas.
Putting it all in perspective, if the government were able to stop the funding of the space program say for 3-4 years, we could use that money to do away with oil dependency here on earth.

Fair enough, but that is just a government policy issue. It's like bad management in general. I think there still is a point in space/science exploration.

The point is the same as in 1654 when they went up in an air balloon.

Whats the point in learning anything new? Learning is a big waste of money.

Wow, now that's hope for the future, lol.
I think that there's a point in learning new things. With relation to the space program, I think that if we were to really explore, we would've sent someone to Mars or another planet 20 years ago. Figuring out who would go would be extremely simple, since there's tons of qualified candidates rotting away in prison.

Re: Space Shuttle & Space Station
I think the ISS is a bit of an essential steppingstone to mars and further exploration.
The way we are going atm, we cant live on earth forever, theres overpollution and overpopulation, so we need to spread out somewhere or we'll be going the way of the Dinosaurs.

Re: Space Shuttle & Space Station
My thoughts exactly!!! Its our nature to explore. I was kidding about learning new stuff. I fully support NASA and the rest of the space agencies around the world. If there is one good thing that comes out of it, the world has come together for the ISS project. Kirk, I agree with you 100% on taking a kid to see something like that. My Father took me to see Apollo 11 lift off and I've been hooked on science ever sense.

Re: Space Shuttle & Space Station
lets look at it objectively, stripped of schoolboy fantasies of being Luke Skywalker.
learning is obviously important, but at what price? to go back to oil mentioned how come we don't invest in "learning" new ways to create alternate fuels that will be required within a few decades? pathetic. also the quest to fly like a bird was thousands of years in the making. you'd have think the moonwalk a few decades sorta would have slowed that nonsense down.
also in regards to learning the shuttle and space exploration is akin to trying to "learn" algebra before you can even count to 10... glen

Re: Space Shuttle & Space Station
I don't have a 7 year old at my disposable, but i have an 8 & 11 year old that will think it's pretty nifty. Regardless of how much we dislike our current administration.
