Start A Website

Hey guys, I want to start a really cool website that helps people with any questions that they have. It can be regarding anything and the service is free so if I don't know the answer or can't find the answer it isn't a big deal. Also I would have a few specialized sections on cameras, computers, guitars, tv's, games.

Basically I want to make a place where you can get answers to questions without getting frustrated, you all know what I mean... example- you go to Best Buy, you ask a person if there is a Sony with a touch screen; however, the man (or woman) answers back, "We have touch screen cameras."

Now that is nice, you have touch screen cameras... now answer my question. It seems as if wherever you go and you need a question answered you get a sorta, kinda, maybe related answer.

For my computer section I would have suggestion on what computer to buy or build depending on your level and needs. Also many other suggestions and help for computer related things.

For the Guitar section I would have my personal reviews of gear I have owned or played enough on to have a good idea of how it sounds. Also I will post mini-lessons teaching some theory and licks.

I want to make it free but I would like to make some money. I co-own a room of servers so hosting doesn't really cost anything since the other servers pay for the whole set. Maybe I can figure out how to have a premium section of my website for special features you don't get with free membership. I don't know yet.

I had other ideas but I can't remember right now since I have a migraine >_<

Post Ideas and suggestions, I will have a few friends helping me but a website on this scale may require much work for few people.

I think I will make the domain simple and effective- www.AskJoe.com

I know it will be much work, but I am really fed up with these overpriced places that charge you $50 bucks to tell you that your computer monitor isn't plugged in and things of that sort.

I could also do a little blog section just talking about random things, I always like to tell about what I learned in classes like physics and psychology.

A good thing to do is have some heavy weight contributors who are pros intheir field. Maybe you could off them banner space for free if they do a Q&A session oonce a month maybe.

I run a website selling fruit and veg plants, and I am a trained horticlturist. I would definately be interested in helping out. I haven't been to the gym for a while, so I am proabably getting heavyweight as well

I have no idea, and it would depend on which field of expertise you are talking about.

Since it is a free website, you need to get someone who has something to advertise otherwise a household name is going to cost you money.

For cameras, for example, find a guy who owns a good independent e-commerce site. Someone that is not no 1 on google, who needs the site hits, then ask then if they could do a monthly Q&A, maybe the 10 most common questions, or even reviews in return for a banner to their site.

Same for audio visual, computers, whatever. The thing is to make sure that you can offer them something that they want, which will be free advertising, for not much work on their behalf.
