Surround Sound Headphones

Hey guys, I want to get myself some 5.1 or 7.1 dolby digital surround sound headphones (or headset) but I don't really know much about headsets or headphones. Do any of you have ideas for what I should get? I would get a speaker system but that is very dumb since I go off to college after my senior yr.
If I buy like Ipod earbuds I look at frequency range so I know to look at that, but isn't there a difference between some that say "5.1" and actual dolby digital 5.1?

I was looking around and found these but the 7.1 says "Virtual" and the expensive 5.1 says "true." So I guess "true" is what I'm looking for

Help!

edit: just found this, probably uber expensive when it comes out though. Also, I do like Razer since my mouse is one

Re: Surround Sound Headphones

I think the general consonance is to stay away from surround sound headphones. The separation is supposed to be not so great and the SQ lacks because of the small speakers necessary to fit in the casing. You'd probably be better off with a pair of good stereo headphones with some binaural recordings or something.

If you decide to go stereo, list a budget and I can give you some suggestions.

I'd like to hear some good stereo headphone brands too, it sucks that there aren't any great surround sound headphones, I'd love to hear my games or movies in surround sound but without annoying my roomates lol

Re: Surround Sound Headphones

Sony Studio series has done me proud for 10+ years now.
They are decent cans for a decent price.
Signet open air are another very nice choice.

AVOID the Bose hyped BS... anything by brands like KOSS or something you'd find at Radioshack, WalMart, etc...

Re: Surround Sound Headphones

I guarantee you that a set of Shure SE210-N Sound Isolating Earphones or any Shure Earphones would not let you down mate. I have been using Shure for the last few years and have never looked back. Feels like the sound is actually in your head!! I have the Shure SE530's right now which I paid £214.99 for and I am absolutely amazed by them, the sound is far superior any set of Sony Headphones.
