'Taleban-like beard' sees Metallica frontman detained at airport

James Hetfield, frontman of US metal rockers Metallica, was detained at a British Airport before his appearance at London's Live Earth gig on Saturday.

According to British newspaper The Times, the rocker jetted into Luton airport ahead of Saturday's Live Earth concert at Wembley Stadium - where his legendary rock band was due to perform - but was halted by officials before he could leave the terminal.

The legendary frontman was then subjected to a brief line of questioning, after which security-conscious officials were left red-faced when Hetfield explained he was a member of a world-famous rock band.

The Times claims Hetfield's friends blame his "Taleban-like beard" for the interrogation........

I think he should've been arrested for everything he;s put out since the black album, and possibly executed for St Anger.

The beard looks more like ZZ Top than talaban.

Lol, its strange when famous personalities like him manage to go without being noticed.

I remember there was a similar story in a newspaper a few years back when Tiger Woods came over before The Open. Some security guard wouldnt let him into the clubhouse, said it was for players and vips only

Incidentally, went to see Metallica last night at Wembley. I thought they were excellent, hardly played any songs after the black album. Two or three if memory serves correctly. They played Orion all they way through

Absolutely love that tune!

Apparently they've rediscovered their old material. Which is a good thing cuz let's face it, that's Metallica at their best.

I love the fact that nobody at the airport knew who he was. I guess Mettalica's just not that big in England.......

Now let me tell you, Metallica is MASSIVE in England but just like everyone (including my 81 year old nan) would know about Metallica, only the true fans would actually know the individual band members.
Yo-yo Ma or Hose Carreras can stop me on the street and ask me for directions and I won't realise who I'm talking to.

Chances are he probably got stopped because his passport photo was beardless or something. Luton is a small airport and even people from EU countries have their passports looked at.
Heathrow Immigration officers normally just wave me through but at Luton I always get some chump staring at my photo as if they're thinking about asking me out.

They were probably pretty red faced.

I watched the perfomance from Live Earth and caught some footage from a gig in Spain where they busted out ...And Justice For All. It appears Metallica might have got their metal back on. The new album may indeed not be complete poop.
