I noticed that there's a lot of really good freeware out there. Some better than the comercial alternative. Sometimes it's hard though to sort out the good from the bad.
In this thread post a link to your favorite freeware app. Please only good software with no spyware.

I'll start with DEEPBURNER. It's a CD burning app that is great for burning music CD's. It can burn data CD's as well as other things but I find it very good for audio CD's.
There is a pro version too but just grab the free version here...

Grisoft.com's AVG anti-virus system is great, low resource intensive. It's just a straight ahead virus program that doesn't get into the bloatware.

Definitely seconded.
I have been using that for 4 or 5 years or so now, and its great. It does everything I want it to and more, for free. Its probably one of the most reliable pieces of software I have used.

I really like Ad-Aware too. Again, its just a nice, simple, spyware checker. That I'm sure quite a few people on here have used before.

This is a cool thread idea.

Here you will find demos of old computer games, like Duke Nukem, Blake Stone: aliens of gold, Rise of the triad etc. I used to play a lot of these as a child.

I dont know if anyone knows this. Is there any freeware out there that does hard disk partitioning that supports WSFS, the new file system that is being used in Windows Vista.

I dont know if Partition Magic (Symantec) has that version out. But what about the others besides Partition Magic (that is free ofcourse)? anyone?

Virtualdub is an excellent tool for working with avi files. I use it when converting avi's to DVD. It's handy to get information about the avi such as if it's pal or ntsc. You can re-encode avi's to fix problems such as audio out of sync and it will also attach avi's files together into one large avi.

WinFS was put back for a service pack release if i recall correctly.

Im running vista and at no point did it offer me any filesystem other than NTFS.

Probably useless for most of you, but I wrote a little MIDI drum machine program for linux, licensed under the GPL. http://gneutronica.sourceforge.net/

It's strictly MIDI, doesn't have any sounds of its own, so you need MIDI hardware or a softsynth with some drum sounds.
