Re: The Photography Thread
Well, it took awhile, but I got my tax return and took delivery of my new (to me) camera today.
I worked out a deal locally and got a package deal of a
Canon
7D with less than 9000 actuations on it (this baby looks new!) and a Sigma 17-50 HSM OS
Lens
.
Everything came in boxes with all the original paperwork and he even threw in an 8gb Sandisk Extreme card.
Got the whole thing for $1600 dollars.
I may sell the lens later and get a Canon, but right now I couldn't be happier!
I'll get some pics up as soon as I learn some more about this AF system.

Re: The Photography Thread
Thanks Glen!
By the time we are done, we will have Steve buying a new camera.
(Funny thing is, is that the guy who sold me this was selling it to get a 5D II
and said he will miss the lightning fast auto focus on the 7D the most)

Some wonderful pics here. Shows how multi-talented everyone is!
I own a Canon G9. Hoping to upgrade to a DSLR one point in the future.

I might be buying a minty 5d tomorrow. I have to try a FF camera so I know for sure if I want FF or not.

Re: The Photography Thread
Went to the flea market today and got a few snapshots with the 7D:
First two were shot with the Sigma and the last with the 50 1.8.

i think you'll like the 5D based on what you shoot and have used prior. Sometimes you have to just get FF out of your system to really see if it's worth the trade-off.
You have some FF/film EOS lenses right?
Canon used a dated AF system (from 20D) which is ok on a aps-c sensor but with a larger sensor the AF points are very clustered. Now add the possibility of shallower DOF and they become frustrating... glen

Re: The Photography Thread
Thanks Glen,
That second set of directions worked. Adjusted the Sigma and also the 50 to a lesser degree. my 75-300 seemed ok.
On a side note, I couldn't figure out until yesterday why the viewfinder seemed blurry to me (I thought there was a smudge). I then remembered the previous owner wore glasses.
One dioptric adjustment later, and I'm golden....the little things you don't think about.

So far I like it. It's a little clunky compared to the 40D and the lcd is incredibly bad but so far I'm liking the images.

Congrats!
Did you keep your 40D? Seems like you will really have the best of both worlds that way.
Be sure to post up some pics when you get a chance.

Right now I have the 5D, 40D, and RebelXT. I might sell the 40D to offset the price of the 5D, and keep the old RebelXT for backup.
