Re: The Photography Thread
no offense, but rockwell is like asking the ultimate jem fanboy to choose a LesPaul.
d200 is a forgettable "wish it were never made" type $2k dSLR. Now the D3/300 are a totally different story, just missing the middle sibling which would be very, very popular.
they kept MP down to keep noise down on the D3 and FSP speed up (9fps with smaller file size).
nikon
is totally new to the "i can do high ISO" arena and took no chances -- smart move! ...glen

i can see you're a
canon
man .. and theres now't wrong with that.. i was too, but i made a move to nikon some years ago with a F4 back in '89' then back to canon with EOS1n .. stunning bit o' kit at the time, but at the end of the day its what works best for you, i personally find the nikon gear is better for me @ this moment in time.. sure, canon stuff does look prettier and trick,... i think i said to you before its not that important which you use so long as you enjoy using it especially if you're doing it just for fun. differant cameras present differant opertunities in differant situations.
d200 forgetable? why? mine was brilliant, i rattled 30,000 frames off with mine, never missed a beat.. a vast improvement on the D100 which was pretty good too in its day..
ken rockwell may be a nikon fan but they don't sponsor him, and you can see for yourself the comparisons between a d200 and a 5d, you don't need to be a fan. the same criticism you made about the cost of a D3 could be applied in the same way with a d200 v 5d,
no offense taken BTW..

Re: The Photography Thread
i've used pentax, nikon & canon. i use the best tool... if it were nikon (now and likely in the future) i'd sell the bag tomorrow.
5d can be found at the same price as the new d300.
but they're different cameras.
Nikon NEEDS to release a 5D-competitor ASAP (it would benefit EVERYONE! -- get it done nikon).
the d200 is pretty much a dog overall as a $2k semi-pro dSLR. better than D100 doesn't say much. terrible high iso, problems galore google around. It's the reason half the Nikon users went to Canon dSLRs. You can get a used 1DmkII for less which is 10x the camera (of a D200) so lets be real that one is best left in the history books. Proof of the pudding you'd NEVER recommend anyone to purchase a D200 today, wheras the canon 20/30D are still highly recommended as well as the 3 year old 5D, 1DmkII & 1DsmkII. Great bargains actually.
Look, you can get a great pic from almost any camera if used properly and/or if it's used in special circumstances that favor a good outcome but what i'm saying is generally regarded as common knowledge. Nikon just came into the dSLR game my friend (they were AWOL for a long, long time except for the D40 & 3AF point nonsense)... glen

Re: The Photography Thread
I remember there being some interest in having a weekly theme based photograph. If you guys like, you can join in on one that I have going at the moment with my business partner.
Due date is Monday midnight (y'all can do Monday midnight your time). I'm still yet to take my photo.
The theme is, "
That's a bad idea
". It was thought up by my business partner and is open to interpretation.
So yeah, if you want, think up something that would encapsulate, "That's a bad idea" and post up before Monday midnight. 1 photo per person
.
I'll post mine up once it's taken.

Any rules? I know there was some discussion about PS vs no PS.
I'm really looking forward to this!

Re: The Photography Thread
The only main rule is a camera has to be used. Art is art is art is art.
(Oh, ofcourse: has to be a new image, you have to be the person that took the shot..)
