I have the Sigma 10-20 and I love it. I highly recommend it. it came in very handy for shooting real estate when i was doing that. it's a great lens. for weddings, i think i take maybe 50 shots with it, if that. it's one of those things i don't use a lot of, but when i need it, it's there. you will love it! the nice thing with the sigma, i haven't seen much distortion. it's one of the only sigmas i have left. i switched to all canon lenses in the last year.
Rotti, what would the difference be in having a fast prime lens for food pics. Is the 50mm your talking about, what every one refers to as the nifty fifty. Since someone asked the bill for the dinner was $61,000.00 before bar sales.
61,000.00? You could buy a lot of lenses with that.
Yes I think some people call the 50mm 1.8 the nifty fifty. Anyway it's cheap. If you don't have a prime you should really grab a 50mm 1.8. They are Less than 100.00 used. Check the buy and sell section on fredmiranda.com.
The thing about a fast prime is that it's great for low light, (which most food shots probably are) super image quality, crazy sharp, nice bokeh as well. As soon as you try a good prime you will see the difference in image quality compared to most, and probably all zooms.
I just keep one for when I need it. Right now it's a 50mm 1.8 and I would like to upgrade it to the Sigma 1.4 some day. Thats what I would use for food dishes.
Oh and the 50mm 1.8 comes in a mkII and a MKI. One has better build quality and is a little more expensive. I think the cheaper of the two is fine. I think it's the MKII.
Some photos i took of a friend's band last night. difficult shoot. Here are a few i kinda like.....
John Dobbs formerly of Radakka...now in this band...Mockstar. I loved Radakka back in the day and still do. Kinda cool shooting these shots of John and sitting in on their band practices.
My friend Jack on vocals
cool
Cool shot of Jack but he is a little blurred. This enrages me! I kept it cuz I like the pose.
Chef, I think those are some of my favorite pictures I've seen of yours. I really like the 4th shot down with the street light behind snow covered trees! Very Nice!
Yeah, and this is an example where the color cast adds to the shot. Some people try to make everything perfect white balance but sometimes you don't want that.

18-200MM VR
Nikkor Micro 60mm 2.8 , I only used the micro on that portrait of my very beautiful friend.
