Cool, the 50mm 1.8 is a no brainer. The more you use it the more you will like it.
What kind of post processing are you doing? Do you shoot RAW and use photoshop and all that?
Well I think your photos are good and getting better but learning to use photoshop is your next step to get the most out of your photos.
I would say start shooting RAW and look for some tutorials online on how to process your images. Lightroom is very popular as well. I haven't had much luck with it but a lot of people like it.
I'd be happy to give you a basic run through on what I do to my images with photosop. They all get basicly the same minor adjustments but it can make a big difference.
interesting images Chef, but the easiest thing you could do to make 'em better is up your exposure a little, i hope you don't mind me tinkering with your piccie!!
its valentines day coming up and i remembered this image i shot of this rat + a tail who was eating my attempts at bread making a month or so ago and i think he was trying to communicate with me, this has not been photoshoped. HAGO
we nick named him the goat, as he will eat pretty much anything you throw to him apart from orange plastic. Any other plastic is fine but orange has a strange tang or something?
For anyone thats new with Photoshop these are the online tutorials I would look for (and there are TONS of them).
1)Adjusting white balanace.
2)Adjusting exposure
3)Adjusting hue and saturation
4)Applying unsharp mask (not too much)
If you can get those things down you'll be in good shape. In my opinion you need to be able to do these things in a program like Photoshop or Lightroom to get reasonably good results.
What I do is open the raw files in photoshop or adobe bridge, then I adjust the white balance first if needed. Next I adjust the exposure if needed. I usually bump up the black level a little as well. Maybe increase or decrease the overall saturation.
Next I apply a little unsharp mask. Sometmies selectively. Only to certain parts of the image. Lastly I save and or resize.
These things are very basic to a lot of us but some users probably have not done this yet and I figure this will be a good starting point.
Heres a few snaps of my 8yr old son, he is part of a pair (twins) i bought him this Yamaha ERG kit with practice amp.. this is his first hands on go! first things first.. he's on the power chords! check out the guitar face.. do you remember your first go??
This is one I did of the moon, soon after I got my Tamron 75-300.
A little darker than yours Rotti, but I think I was using an ISO 100.
