Thoughts on iRig
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irig/features/
Anyone tried this? I'm considering it, but would like some opinions. First hand experiences would be nice too, of course.
I do not already own an
iPhone
, but I am considering the iPhone 4 for other reasons. If this is a good tool then I'm close to sold on both. The iPhone 4 is not out yet in Norway, so I don't know the conditions for buying one. This little iRig seem to be quite useful. The phone would be with me anywhere anyway, and I'm almost positive this sounds better than my current travel rig - Zoom 9000...

Well I have just pre-ordered the interface. When it arrives I'll let you know, and I will post a review.

Re: Thoughts on iRig
I've downloaded the free version of Amplitube, and was considering the iRig dongle, but was put off a bit when I saw the price of it. I've found a couple of DIYs for making your own guitar to iPhone dongle, so I think I'll make my own.

The price with shipping etc is a bit of a joke, but I really want one so I am sure it will be worth it. With the gaurantee issues with Apple I thought it was safer to get the dongle than put one together.
PRS also have a similar product, but I can't seem to find a PRS dealer in the UK that is prepared to get one for me.

Re: Thoughts on iRig
A review would be great!
If it can replace any other travel amp setup, then it might even be cheaper (and more convenient) to buy an iPhone 4 just to get this.

Apparently the PRS dongle is a bit crappy, so don't worry too much about it.

Re: Thoughts on iRig
To those interested in DIYing a dongle, this is probably the best one I've found. Two options:

I'll sleep better, thanks
Just sent an e-mail asking when it is going to arrive. I think it is on back order, so we will see.

Hehe...dongle.....
I'd like to see how this works, too
I'd love it if it was halfway decent.

Re: Thoughts on iRig
Thanks for the interest, can't wait to read the review. Note that this is not simply a soldered lead/splitter - there was a lot of thought and experimentation and there are components that handle impedance matching and other critical elements of getting the best signal into and out of the device while minimizing/eliminating crosstalk. So that's what goes into the pricing of the iRig build.
If shipping from us to you is prohibitive, take a look at the dealers section of our site Thanks!

Re: Thoughts on iRig
The picture above is an adapter - USB to wall socket. The one in the picture is a euro version. I think this application+iRig will work best with an adapter, to avoid limitations given by battery life.
