To Video production guys...

i'm thinking of getting rid of my 2 Canon GL2's. i love them but was thinking of purchasing a Canon HD video cam for the video side of the studio. I need 2 cams for shoots...but i need to sell both GL2's to aid in getting the ONE Canon HD. I will only have one cam until I can afford a 2nd one. I have upgraded to CS3, which I have done for the vista machine. other than that, i think i need new burner bluray technology but i'm not going to do that...i can wait. i heard the quality of HD cams is seen even during regular DVD burns. CBR only in DVD authoring for me! what have you guys done? did you go HD? i could easily film a wedding with one cam until we get enough revenue to get a 2nd one....$4k a piece.

I probably won't do it but feel that it needs to be done before I can't sell the GL2's. I don't want it to catch up with me where I can't get much for them...like what happened during the jump from vhs to 8mm to minidv...who is buying vhs camcorders now? you get my point. would be really sweet for these machines to use no tapes! maybe CF cards only....perfect. no capture time!

Think as a customer first (that is always what a small business owner should do obviously). Do you expect "HD" video? Do you even want it and if so on what medium and what additional cost would it be delivered? If customers are PAYING for and DEMANDING HD video then it's a prerequisite not an option.

I'd think the real world customer wants a simple DVD that plays on any TV.

it's too bad your GL2 can't record in 720x480p anamorphic video as that would be sufficient for a few years as HD video cams become mainstream in cost & features. i can see unloading equipment before it's obsolete but the value drop will be matched by the HD camcorder's price drop... making it a wash... glen

Ah Glen, you know me too well....hehehe. no, no order yet. i think the same way you do and right now it is not worth it for me. i have been asked by 3 brides in the last 6 months or so if we shoot in HD. i said "not yet but we are moving that way" and i have not heard back from them. 3 weddings to me doesn't justify it. i just don't want to be caught with "old gear" on my hands with couples wanting HD. i will wait.
