Travelling to Italy and Germany, Laws against playing amplified music in public?

In May, I'm going on an extended travel study program through Italy and Germany. I was planning to take my guitar (AX 7221) along with a Fender Amp Can http://www.fender.com/products/searc...tno=0231200000 , and I was just told by a friend of mine that there are laws against using amps in public. I'm hoping that the Amp Can wouldn't be loud enough to be a nuissance. There are several reasons to take the electric instead of the acoustic. What are the community thoughts on the issue?

I play my 100 watt combo at home as loud as I want and the neighbourghs never complain. I don't know about playing in public but a law prohibiting public performances with amplifiers sound pretty stupid to me. I mean was the G3 supposed to play unamplified?!?!

I wasn't aware of any of this but I think I may have misunderstood yur point....

I think I'm going to try using the amp outdoors anyway. The amp is only 15 watts, so its not like I'll be filling the streets with noise or anything. If anyone wants to see me play some jazz, or jam a bit, I'll be somewhere in Rome on the 19th or 20th of May, then I'll be going to several other cities, ending with Berlin on the 23rd of June. If anyone is interested I can post the schedule.

one more thing, What will I need in the way of voltage adapters so I can charge batteries?

we use 220-230 AC, and plugs are different than US plugs.
anyway, no laws against playing in public as far as i know. there are many people playing sax or accordions down street for alms. btw, i hope you won't play Slayer at Piazza San Pietro: new Pope Ratzinger would bang you off ;D

I was thinking of playing something along the lines of 'A Night in Tunisia' or 'St. Thomas' I think what I'll do is ask the people at the hotels if they know of places where I could play/ where any other jazz musicians are. I doubt I'll be playing in Piazza San Pietro, unless I see someone else do it first.

Remember that no one in Europe speaks english. In Italy they only learn italian and french, and in Germany they learn german and greek. I've been to both Germany and Italy, and I got along as we learn german in school.

you kidding!?! the only foreign language Italians can speak is English. we don't like German language because it sounds "stiff", and we don't like French language too because it sounds snob. we like English language a lot, it is our second language. i think the 70-80% of 12-to-50 aged Italians can speak decent English ("decent" meaning that it may be gramatically uncorrect but you can understand it).

We Germans learn English in school from grade 5..at least I did (now 18/grade 12), they might start even earlier today...I'm quite sure you get along with English in every European city, worked for me in Prague
