Trip to the US

hi everyone,
In a few years I'm going to travel to the US, I have to save first, I have no money :-)
Does anyone have a rough idea of how much I will have to save? I'm planning to stay for at least six weeks.
I'm planning to go to los angeles.

Thanx for your help.

I'll probably stay at cheap motels so I have more money for spending.

Re: Trip to the US

I suggest you do an internet search about 6 months before you go, mate. It's too soon now! Prices will change and if you're trying to get a feel for how much things cost (like food, accomodation and beer etc) then, again, do a search.

Once you got your accomodation budget sorted then move on to living expenses....it's really not much more different, price-wise, like Australia (give or take).

Just hook up with some fat chick on myspace and then stay with her while you are here... American women just love that accent and it would be a plus if you dressed like the Crocodile hunter when you send her your pictures. Trust me this works some guy from Australia stayed with a female friend of mine for free for like 6 months and she loved every minute of it. Crazy!

I know of a guy when I was in Uni who was chatting with a girl on IRC for quite some time. She sent him a pic of her and she was quite good looking. She paid for a return airline flight for him to meet her, and when he got there she was 3 times the size of what she was in the photo! She sent him a pic of her from 10 years earlier or something and he fell for it!

He had to stay with her for two weeks and fend for himself because he didn't have enough money to stay elsewhere (poor uni student), and the plane ticket she had so he couldn't try and transfer flights!

Lucky for you you live in Australia which is miles away from everything meaning your plane ticket will cost quite a bit. I went to Greece this year for 4 weeks and it cost around 10K including tickets. Last time I went to Europe in 06' for 7 weeks cost me about 11K including tickets. This year I went with my girlfriend so there was plenty of splurging that may be unnecessary if you're not with a gf. I think it could have been done with 5K if we didn't go nice hotel and spend 200Euro on drinks at the beach everyday. Point being, it depends on you and what you want to do when your there. US has a better exchange rate and not as expensive from what I've heard. I'd say maybe around 5K not including tickets depending on how much you want to live it up. Hopefully for you the $AU climbs back up closer to the value of the US$ by then.
