Trouble with camcorder

Any help will be greatly appreciated, basically i want to get the medial from my cam onto my comp, when i have set everything up nothing iniciates; My friend seems to think it has something to do with my graphics card, to be honest i find it hard to believe. Thanks.

What camera, how are you importing the video into the computer?

I agree on the details. I also think that if you have the camera connected through the usb or firewire port, the pc should recognize it but, in order to transfer video or stills, you would need to install the software the camera came with so you can import your videos, etc.

and what software and version are you using? do you get an error message? does the camera show up in device manager when connected to usb / firewire? do other peripherals show up when connected to usb / firewire ports on that machine? need to make sure the ports are working first. if they are, what operating system do you have? if xp you may need to upgrade to sp2 and the ports drivers and if still nothing happens you may need the drivers from the camera off the vendor's site.
