Vista Support

The woman has Vista on her laptop. She's got about 80GB of free space on her C drive. She also has an external drive, 250GB with about 200GB free. She's trying to copy a 5GB file to the external drive an gets an error saying there isn't enough space on the destination drive.

My only real thought was not enough space in the temp folder or something like that, but with so much free space on the C drive, that doesn't seem to make sense.

Does Vista have any goofy restrictions that would prevent something like this?

Re: Vista Support

External drive is formated with FAT for greater compatibility and FAT can't handle files bigger than 4GB.

Re: Vista Support

Jay,

AFAIK, those external drives are hot swappable and don't usually require to be formatted, though it wouldn't hurt to reformat it by using the software it came with. Let us know what happens.

Re: Vista Support

Yeah, problem solved by formatting to NTFS. In other news, I'm seriously considering getting an XP license for her laptop (Vista was the only option when she bought it).
