Whats up with the Flash 8 hype?

You may have noticed... a few websites have been following this new Flash 8 hype recently... and one recent notable one, the DiMarzio website. Pity those who are on other browsers that don't have Flash 8, linux for example, coz Flash 8 isn't released for them yet.

Re: Whats up with the Flash 8 hype?

But how good is it, if they never used it then there wouldnt be a need to release it universaly and wed be missing out. its incredible what people are doing with it, my lecturer at uni showed us some examples awhile ago.

But the dimarzio website looks exactly the same as it did b4 so maybe it should only be used were needed until its universal

Re: Whats up with the Flash 8 hype?

My bad the latest flash is already available for firefox. But those using linux... too bad.
Recently one of our local telco's upgrade their website to full flash 8... and all those users using linux and stuff cannot log in to check their account... it's just plain dumb to use full flash for such critical websites. flash can do wonderful stuff, but i just dislike full flash websites.

a telco uses flash, now ive heard it all. U'd think a big company would use java especially for something as fundmental and important as that.

Re: Whats up with the Flash 8 hype?

^ exactly. here's the website: http://www.digi.com.my/
May look pretty cool at first but when u think about it, its just silly really.
I always preferred simple and functional websites. Having full flash for a new promotional product advert would be fine, but definately not for a telco company's primary website.

MetalZone,

A Flash 9, yes 9, player beta was released for various platforms including linux yesterday. I've tested it on my linux machine and it displays the DiMarzio site perfectly. You can grab it here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html

Presuming you run Mozilla/Firefox, just extract the archive and move the shared object file (libflashplayer.so) to ~/.mozilla/plugins and you're all set.

Ok ill tell my grandma to do that lol

Either way if you havent dl it, it wont work and you'd be suprised how many people dont know how to and a tel co especially deals with everyone, not just a target audience. I learnt that in the very first lecture of intro to multimedia.
