She set the passwords on the equipment when we got it as she was the one who bought the stuff for her computer at the time. I does hurt the ego to have to call her about anything I can't figure out on my own
MR814 v2 is the model.

Re: Wireless Router Security?
hehe.
plus a hard reset will prevent having to ask the g/f.
press/hold RESET for 15-ish seconds until all lights go off and flash, then release.
all settings restored to when you opened the box

Re: Wireless Router Security?
That got me there Glen and everyone else who helped, THANKS so far
admin and password worked.
i'm guessing i go under "wireless settings" and add an encrypted key (WEP) to make it secure?

Re: Wireless Router Security?
when i open up WAN setting under the advanced option i get:
connect automatically, as required (box is checked)
disable SPl firewall (box checked)
default DMZ server (not checked)
respond to ping on internet port (box checked)
MTU size (in bytes)-------------------------------1500
that is all that is in this section. am i in the right part of the settings?

Re: Wireless Router Security?
make sure you have the latest firmware on that router.
see netgear.com support page.
latest/new firmware should add WPA
