Re: wiring for surround sound in home

yeah, the exterior walls. there was the framing for the house and these sheets were put up against the studs on the outside of the home and they put the siding up over that. a little more than 1/2 the home is like that...the other half being plywood. i'm no carpenter but i didn't like the looks of it. the builder said they would build homes in that material only if they could but the home wouldn't be as stable. they used plywood sheets here and there for stability. they also stressed this material is for better insulation from heat / cold over plywood. i don't buy it. they also said an attic fan isn't necessary! the way the homes are built today...blah blah blah.....ok, so there won't be a massive heat blanket in my attic in mid summer?!?! screw them. as i type this i have a couple electricians on my roof installing an attic fan...found them online. they are also rewiring for a couple more ceiling fans since the builder didn't add a 3rd line as needed for the fans..controlling the light and fan separately on the switch. these guys are doing a GREAT job...and not too pricey, and yet...this should deplete my wallet for this month...but in the end the home will be cooler.

Re: wiring for surround sound in home

My brother was telling me about that stuff. I havent done any residential work in a few years, but he was telling me how alot of new houses can be broken into with just a razor knife. Cut the siding, cut the insulation and cut the drywall. That sucks. I plan on building my next house for that reason. Most of my family is in construction so I can get the labor pretty cheap.

You can break into any home with a 4" hole saw. Cut a hole and unlock whatever you want.

yeah that does suck! what would you use? steel walls? or you can have machine gun turrets in your front lawn with hatch doors...that could work. few 20mm chain guns.....ok, i guess 10mm would work. brick would be the way to go. i would have loved to have done that...but it's too much $$$. maybe the next house........years down the road.

If it's new construction you can run a couple layers of galvanized fence betwee the studs on either side of the windows and lock side of doors. You could still get through with a sawzall but if somebody wants in, you just won't stop them. All you can do is have a security system good enough to be difficult to defeat, but with everybodies phone line so accessible, that's not hard either.
