xbox360 3 red lights

afternoon lads.so i bought my son a xbox360 not sure how long ago exact but roughly 2-3 years ago,after a while the 3 red lights came on so i sent it back to microsoft.they sent a brand new 1 this was roughly 2 years ago,yesterday my son says the 3 red lights have come back on again,xbox wont work.ive tried unplugging power cables ect ect and still doesnt work.has anyone got any other ideas how to fix it before i ship it back to microsoft.also how long is the warranty for 3 red lights ive been told 3 years is this true.cheers guys,rob

The 3 red lights (red rings of death) is a general hardware malfunction. Microsoft extended the warranties for those errors to 3 years, so you should still be covered. Don't do that hardware modifications like the previous poster suggested because you will void your warranty. Not only that, not just any joe and rig an xbox like that. Opening the xbox casing is challenging in itself. I just recently got my xbox swapped under the warranty.

cheers mate,yes i was told the same about opening up the console,microsoft wont repair or replace console once opened,but thanks to the other lad for the idea though.

call in with the serial number and they'll tell you how lucky you are to be still under warranty. Pack it up and send it off. Turn around for mine was something like 3 weeks or a month, not too bad considering they say it could be up to 6 weeks. Most guys at UPS and Fedex can spot an XBox in a box the minute you walk into the door. One place near me said they get 10 or so a week...

It happened to me. I sent it in, got a new one back, I love it and Fable 2 is amazing.

cheers for the input lads.i phoned microsoft i have a feephone number if anyone wants it pm me,anyways i gave them the serial number and its still under waranty so its getting picked up next week ups.

That's happened to my xbox 3 or 4 times. Sent it back and got it replaced every time. But the last time Microsoft decided to be the ******* ***** they are and refuse to send me the box you need to put the xbox in. I've been trying to do this for months.

Not to mention they won't replace my game that got completely scratched up by the 360 unless I pay 30$ for some reason.

It's a shame Microsoft had to suck so hard, because Nintendo has sucked since it came out with the Wii with its pathetic graphics as well as it's constant milking of its popular game series', and Sony isn't any better with it's milking either, they got out of hand after FF VII. Not to mention the ps3 is overpriced and lack of games.

I'll stop here before it turns into a 12 page rant

Duuude, they fixed your Xbox 3-4 times for free and your still pissed? Be nice to your xbox, keep it in a cool ventialted area and it will last just fine!

same sort of think happened to me.i sent the xbox back to microsoft cos of the 3 red lights,they sent it back saying the mother board had been replaced.as soon as i switched it on 3 red lights straight away i was back on the phone,so they picked it up again,ok 3-4 weeks later it comes back,same thing again as soon as i switched it on 3 red lights.this time they send a brand new console,that was 18 months or so ago,3 red lights again

Too bad you (and many others) have to get it replaced, it shouldn't be too hard to build a working console. I'm happy my PS3 is loving me.

I think there was a problem with all consoles built between 2005 and 2006. If it was built in that time frame they'll repace it for free. Consoles built after that don't have the problem with was causing them to die.
