Voted 9s. No spesific reason. I've used 9s and 10s, I don't miss a lot of tone playing 9s so I guess I don't care.

Gibsons, which typically have a shorter scale length (24.75") compared to Strats (25.5") come from the factory with 10s. I've got 10's on all but one of my electrics right now but I'm probably going to move to 11s on the LP for better clean tones. Plus the strings tension on the LP is a bit looser than that of my Strat style guitars.

10s will get better frequency response than 9s (I know producers who will make guitarists switch up to 10s for recordings) but I with the gobs of distortions I play with it doesn't make any difference and 9s simply play easier. If I could get 8s in the strings I like I would.

10's rule. That's the lightest I'll go on any guitar - I've got a 10-52 set on my RG2550, and an 11-54 set on my strat.

Re: 9s vs 10s in TONE
the only hassle of movin around like that is intonation. i know people claim there is no difference in intonation for 9s and 10s but i know better. ha ha.

Re: 9s vs 10s in TONE
Heavy strings supposedly innotate better. Or need less composation or something like that. In theory heavy strings are just plain better than like things form a setup/sound point of view. But I'm one of those people who thinks the Amp has more to do with sound than the Guitar so I play strings that I find easy to play. I've tried all the strings gauges and just keep going back to 9s.

EB Hybrid Slinkies (9-46 (so that would be thin top heavy bottom?)). I just don't hear the difference.

Re: 9s vs 10s in TONE
I haven't played 10s in ages. But I detune my guitar quite a bit and event though it sounds cool, I think 10s
are
a good idea for that. But with standard tuning, I just use 9s all the time. Sounds and plays great.

Re: 9s vs 10s in TONE
I can't talk in terms of tone because I haven't used 9s in about 15 years, but I want strings that push back. I hate flimsy strings. Usually I use 11s in standard E.

Re: 9s vs 10s in TONE
for me, it depends on the guitar. right now i prefer 9's with a fairly low action, mostly because i do really big bends, even on the bass strings.. on some guitars, id prefer 10s with a really low action.. i used ernie ball hybrids (9-46) for a long time.. when you are playing in a hard rock or heavy band, its hard to use nines if you're doing a lot of rhythm.. in the current situation i'm in now, im playing a lot of lead, and not much aggressive rhythm, so 9s feel perfect.
