Are Evo's Over-rated ?
OK, every man and his dog seem to have a set of EVO's on a guitar kickin about somewhere !!!
for myself I have two RG's
one with Evo's
one with
Tone Zone
and
PAF pro
I know which I prefer - by miles, like to see the vote call it !!!

Re: Are Evo's Over-rated ?
not any more matey !!!!
try playing two similar guitars with different pups back to back....
Evo's
then tone zone !!!
Have to admit though that the evo guitar is ash with hard mounted pups and the TZ guitar is basswood and pups are suspended from a pickguard !!
Mind you, I had to change ALL my
amp settings
to accomodate the new pups

Re: Are Evo's Over-rated ?
I have an
Air Norton
and Tone Zone combination and the EVO combination and I gotta say, I like them both. The Evos are really nice and very very quiet compared to other hum cancelling pickups.

Re: Are Evo's Over-rated ?
The
Evo Bridge
is probably my favourite ever pickup, but then I think Vai's ALS and S&R tones are some of the best ever recorded so that stands to reason.
It's so powerful and full and tight and crisp and GRRRRRRR and ooooooo and Eeeeeeee and...

Re: Are Evo's Over-rated ?
I'm not a big fan of Evo's, personally. When I first picked up the JEM7V, I thought to myself "my God, this guitar plays better than any other guitar I've ever played...yet my RG370DX SOUNDS BETTER!!!" I definitely think that Evo's are good pickups for some people but they aren't really my cup of tea. And now after hearing Jimmy J's guitar with a PAF Pro (bridge) and Tone Zone (neck), I might just have to try something like that in my next guitar.

I love Evos. They are my favourite pups, well actually on a par with the TZ/BV/AN combination.

This right here is the reason why I hate Evo's........and my amp was tweaked to "sing" with EMGs yet I had to spend 2 months of additional tweakage to find a passable Evo sound.
The worst pickups ever.
Ever.

Re: Are Evo's Over-rated ?
I finally installed some Evo's in a new project just the other day. The jury is still out though, I was initially gobsmacked with the unpredictability and pure venom in these things. Don't know if my chops are good enough to get the real sound out of these babies. I'll just have to get used to them I guess, and then I'll vote later...
