Are you happy with RG/Jem-type neck profiles?
Another thing I've been considering with
Ibanez guitars
recently, is that as much as I love the RG shape (both looks and cosmetics) the necks for me are just too damn thin.
I thought it could've been just me being picky, but I've spoken to a lot of guys locally who always say things along the lines of "I used to love my RG550 but it gives me hand cramps, so now I play a strat." So I'm just wondering whether or not this could be another reason as to why you may or may not buy an RG/Jem/PGM/etc. shaped Ibanez?
I've recently gotten into JS guitars but I don't particularly like their look (or at least, no where near as much as the RG-style) but the neck is nice on the one I have (JS1000BP.)
So what do you think?

Re: Are you happy with RG/Jem-type neck profiles?
Try an older RGT3020 with a thicker (Ultra?) neck. Theyīre massive.
I prefer slightly thinner necks, such as the Jems, UVs, RG2550, 2620. These are great in terms of thickness and flatness, but what matters more to me is finishing: the back, the frets, the board, etc.
I always thought my Jem90 was pretty thin, until I tried an RG20th. I can adapt to most necks Ibanez currently has on offer, so itīs not an issue for me.
The thin necks are what makes Ibanez Ibanez...so I donīt think they should cater too much to people who prefer baseball bats.
When people say "I used to love my RG550 but it gives me hand cramps, so now I play a strat." just let them, if they prefer strats...Ibanez has shown they could do a strat type RG (the RT) but demand was low. They did, however apply the technology used in making the RT to the
prestige necks
.

I'm quite happy with the RG/Jem neck profile and I particularly love the feel and overall playability of the "Prestige" necks
Good luck winning the votes on this poll, Davey

Overall I'm happy with them as they are. I do prefer the slightly thicker JEM necks to the super thin Super Wizard profile though.
I must admit that one of the reasons I didn't get a DNA JEM was that the neck was a Wizard profile rather than a JEM one. (although the price and not being able to find a swirl I liked at the time didn't help either
)

For some reason I always find my self back on the Rg550 with the thin ass neck, maybe because its what I grew up using so my playing seems to work best with the Wizard neck. What else should a wizard be playing on

Re: Are you happy with RG/Jem-type neck profiles?
I'd like it if Ibanez offered necks with different profiles. I'm not fond of thin necks. But, I guess thin necks is one of Ibanez's trademarks, so the necks will probably remain as they are. I'd like a seven string with a rounder neck profile, though.

No worries Davey
Have you tried an older Jem, in particular one of the 777's?? They seem to have a bit more of the "D" shape you are looking for

Re: Are you happy with RG/Jem-type neck profiles?
I've had (practically) them all!
To be honest, I can cope with those thin necks. I just like something with a *little* bit of thickness, but there is a fine line really.
I was just curious as to whether or not more people thought that an option between 2 necks (a' la Gibson's 50's and 60's profile necks) would've earned Ibanez some more sales. I'd certainly be more lenient on finishes, etc. if I liked the neck.
