If I'm picking from the list it would have to be Comfortably Numb. Off of the top of my head Satch's "Flying in a blue dream" or "Surfing w/ Alien", Vai's "Big Trouble", "Ladie's Night in Buffalo", "For the Love of God", or "Giant Balls of Gold". How about Hendrix- all along the watchtower, or Elliot Fisk doing Paganini's fifth caprice? Petrucci on Erotomania? Never forget that Eddie's Eruption certainly represents a milestone that STILL affects the way we play guitar today!

Please excuse my "double-posting" but how about Robert Fripp and "The Talking Drum", or "21st Century Schizoid Man". For this site should the solos be limited to those recorded using a JEM?

Another great one is Marillion's Easter solo. It's such a passionate solo. Just had to add something.

Cheers, James

It's very subjective and depends on your mood. Out of that list - Comfortably Numb - an example of taste, feel, tone and expression - beautiful - and just what a strat's for

I know that it's not on the list but,
Weezer-only in dreams.

The solo compliments the song so well, and the tone is bad ass. I'm sure that alot of you haven't heard it, but it is worth a listen.

Dual

The dual lead from Megadeth's "She-Wolf (Live)" on their DVD is great!

I agree with everything you said, except I might go with "Little Fighter" or "Going Home Tonight" from Vito. Incredible soloist, though.

Ummm does frank even have a solo??? it has the harmonic/whammy bar part but its not really a solo, and the other songs dont have too many good solos either. and metallicas best solos are in their old stuff the unforgiven's solo is nothing compared to their old stuff

Possibly some Yngwie next time

Oh and I think there should be some Yngwie Malmsteen. But Steve Vai's
The Mysterious Murder of Cristian Tiera's Lover would have to be my favourite.

Re: 'Best Guitar Solo' (sorry!)

I had to vote metallica now, some of my fav solos, what i would have maybe included in the poll, its all up to personal taste tho

cutting crew - it shouldnt take too long / mirror and a blade
winger - headed for a heartbreak (very mellow notes)
shotgun messiah - sex drugs rock n roll / babylon
hendrix - all along the watchtower
jimmy page - stairway to heaven extended live solo

WASP - hellion / sleeping in the fire
skid row - quicksand jesus / forever
steve vai- tender surrender
whitesnake - is this love / the deeper the love / dont turn away

priest - between the hammer and the anvil / painkiller / touch of evil
chuck schuldiner (death) - misanthrope , crystal mountain
pantera - cemetery gates
carcass - carnal forge

europe with kee marcello - more than meets the eye / just the beginning
kee marcello - hammers heart

pink floyd - sorrow (you cannot deny the dreamy melodic tunes on this one, gilmours besttt!!!!!!!!))

AND OF COURSE JOHN NORUM!!!!! 'we will be strong' and pretty much anything from Total Control, especially 'blind', 'in chase of the wind', 'love is meant to last forever', and 'well do what it takes together', and his work with europe - on the loose, on broken wings , love chaser !!!!!

err...
Sorry for the long post and list guys, hope you agree with me that these are some of the finest moments in guitar soloing. So much more i forgot to mention .
PS And van halen on beat it kills, true that!
