Re: best guitar wood?

I can't say, it really depends on what the neck and fretboard are made from, what pickups are going in it, etc. All of the above have their merits, but I tend to shy away from mahogany. It sounds too middy for my taste and I prefer something a little brighter sounding and lighter in weight. Maple is just too heavy and very bright. I do like a nice piece of springy sounding swamp ash, though. That might be my choice if I was building a new axe. Korina is great too...

I'm gonna vote for Korina!

I voted for Mahogony because HPL wasn't an option...

High Pressure Laminate? As in counter top material? I played a Martin acoustic once with all HPL. Amazingly it it sounded great, and I'm very picky when it comes to acoustics.

Yeah, I was joking dude. I've played a Martin with the HPL, too, and it does sound awesome. However, I think Martin is the only one I've heard that got HPL right.

Re: best guitar wood?

Mahogany. Most mahogany guitars I've played just sound good. Interesting that basswood isn't a choice considering most Ibanezes are made of it.

Koa for me. Not just a top but the whole body. The more exotic the better.

Re: best guitar wood?

If I'm honest and look at my guitars, it seems basswood is my favourite!!!

I think if I was to go custom I'd go padauk for body and neck and ebony for the fretboard.
