Question

Blackdog: disappointment?

Hi,

So are you guys also kind of disappointed the Blackdog is a limited edition $8000 collector's item? Ibanez could have easily made it available the same way they did the graphic models in the 90s. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed.

I mean, like Rich said: who wouldn't want one? It's kind of lame, to me. Joe is touring with this guitar now, which gets fans excited. Many were probably thinking "I sure hope that one goes into production! ". And then Ibanez presents it as a limited edition $8000 guitar: that's not very cool for the average guitar playing Satch fan, imo.

I wrote a bit of a rant here, but nevertheless. lol

That is a bit steep, but it is obviously just for the collector's. Smart business, disappointment notwithstanding...

Re: Blackdog: disappointment?

I think Ibanez shouldve made a few of these for the hardcore collectors who want to shell out 8 grand to have a guitar that maybe only 5 or 10 other people in the world have, and then made a bunch of mid priced (like 5-700) versions with dimarzios for Satch fans that arent rich but want to have a cool tribute to a guitar that means a lot to them.

Re: Blackdog: disappointment?

Yeah, the guitar means something to the fans, as well. Ibanez is a business, but they could have been a bit more considerate to the fans, imo. It wouldn't have hurt them.

Yeah, I suppose. It wouldn't be quite the same, though.

Yeah, it's pricey, which is dissappointing, but I'm just glad that it's available for those folks who really want one and who can afford it

Re: Blackdog: disappointment?

Is there some reason Ibanez shouldn't be able to play in the Harley, Monterey, Mustang Strat range? That is all we're talking about here. It's unfortunate that everybody that wants one can't afford one, but if everybody could it wouldn't be that special now would it?

It's not like it'll actually COST you $8000, although I'm sure there are plenty of them that will sell for that, and more.

Hell no, I think I'd be more dissapointed if it was cheap and chearful. Even if it's not something I can afford right now, I like the fact that a guitar I really, really want is, by nature of it's availability and price, exclusive.

I also really like the fact that these limited editions do give me the opportunity to see lots of cool guitars that otherwise just wouldn't ever get produced.

I kinda see where you're coming from with the 'special' factor. But, to me, it would still be that if they released it as a 1200BDG or something. But I guess with 'special' you mean something like 'exclusive'?

Btw, do you know how many are going to be made, Rich?
