Do you dampen your trem springs?
I just started dampening my trem springs by inserting a plastic tube inside of them. I haven't decided yet if it makes much difference.
Do you dampen your springs to stop unwanted noise?

It looks like I made this poll in the wrong section. Maybe someone could move it.

Re: Do you dampen your trem springs?
I never have. I don't experience the loss of string vibrations because of the whole tremolo system (which I think is the reason people dampen the springs?) on my guitar as a problem.
I think the Ibanez JS has special springs to minimize loss of string vibrations, which I think is interesting.

Re: Do you dampen your trem springs?
I use a small amount of electrical tape around them, the adhesive is really gooey so it doesn't interfere with the springs moving action. I don't remember where I saw this, but it's not my idea.

I stick a peice of duct-tape across them. I think it helps, what effect it may have on tone? Who knows?

Re: Do you dampen your trem springs?
Yes i do as i play high gain metal and anything that vibrates comes through the amp, especially if using low tunings. If when unplugged you do a hard down stroke while muting the strings (chug.......chug) ,listen to your guitar the instant as the 'chug' is muted and if you hear the springs still vibrating(ringing) then you need to dampen the springs as this will colour your tone and be audible as a mushy/brushy sound when amplified with gain. This goes for your strings beyond the nut and tails of strings through the bridge if you have the newer edge systems that dont need the balls cut off.People often have an inch of string flapping around in the cavity. I only want sound from between nut to bridge for high gain tech metal etc, however when playing something more rock like and looser i will often remove the small strip of tape i put across my string beyond the nut as it can add some nice subtle overtones. But every guitar i recieve gets a strip of sponge across the trem springs.

I stuff a piece of cotton ball inside each spring.

Re: Do you dampen your trem springs?
I put a little strip of foam rubber under my tremolo springs.
works wonders, but don't make it to thick, it might interfere with return to zero

Re: Do you dampen your trem springs?
I practically inundate the spring cavity with cotton wool balls all stretched and skewed to make a big cover and wrap-around, totally silences noise and doesn't affect the trem at all
