Re: Do you play better while drunk?

One or two drinks is fine, and when I was getting lots of stagefright it actually even helped.. but any more than that, I'm hopeless

Anyone who plays a show drunk is a bit of an ******* - assuming they're going to put their gear in their car and drive it at the end of the show

Re: Do you play better while drunk?

Drunk ? Certainly makes me play like **** and out of time, but one-two beers, and that's all, before playing, do actually loosen me up and let play me in a more inspired way ! But then after two small beers, I am no where close to drunk, so ... :-)

Haha I laughed at this poll. My hands are completely useless when I'm drunk. I can play single notes, slowly. It's embarrassing.

I've seen alcohol temporarily turn virtuosos into noobs. The only people that play well drunk have the raw skill, a high tolerence for alcohol, and often practice/jam drunk anyway.

I wouldn't suggest it to anyone even if they can do it.

Re: Do you play better while drunk?

I play out quite frequently, and I never drink while I'm working.

I see other bands really taking advantage of the free bar plus their pay. I always tell the bar owner that I'm not here to drink, I'm here to work. I want my pay and I want him to have a profitable night, and I want to be asked back. If they book me two nights in a row I give them a break monetarily... You wouldn't believe how many bar owners react positively to a professional approach Especially since I don't want to drink their $$$ away. I ask permission to give out one free drink to a patron each set, because after all, I'm there to make money for him, and keep asses in the seats! I also play a game called let's make a deal...Where I ask for outlandish items until someone has something, and the prize is a candle basket (from my candle store of course) . It serves to burn up time , involves the patrons , and promotes my business The ladies love going home with candles!!!

Drinking and work never mix in my book! It's called the music business for a reason...

Re: Do you play better while drunk?

Just to reiterate...Anything you can do to get the gig is always a good thing. I mean I only play cover stuff from the 50's to the present, and unless you're drawing 150 people a night (which I don't) you shouldn't cost the venue anymore money than possible. Having said that, I used to have a very bad drug habit for years and years (so I can relate to some of the guys here). But it sure did cost me many chances to further my career. I wish I had a better business sense back then.

No, I still have the fb page up for me
http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Ach...n/306107448552
Although I stopped updating it when I took a hiatus from playing. I usually don't play during the Winter months, because
1-It sucks
2-The candle biz gets crazy busy, and I can't keep up with it all.

I already have some stuff booked, and started working with a manager out here for some more bookings, as well as joining a casino band . So hopefully I'll be booked solid this year!

Congrats! Unfortunately, I only started to get any "big" gigs at the end of the season as soon as I got warmed up, so I got 1 huge gig, I was totally pumped up for the road... and then the season was over lol!
