Do you think Hendrix is overrated?

I certainly do.

He is always #1 in lists, which I think he doesn't deserve.

Everytime you pass by a guitar magazine, you see hendrix on the cover

Everytime you go to a guitar store you hear a kid poorly playing one of his songs.

Every year he gets a new signature product that sounds nothing like him

It seems like everywhere I go, I hear Hendrix and Hendrix that. I really do like his music and he is a great guitarist but IMO, people are way too crazy about him and give him too much credit.

I voted no... Hendrix took a approach to guitar that no one was doing, his list of people who credit him for influencing there style is long, some of todays best guitarists that we love.. Satch, SRV, Eric Johnson, etc. all have stated it was because of hendrix.

He was brilliant, and he deserves all the props he is given.

well i like hendrix but yes i think ppl are too hendrix crazy, like one time i said to a friend, "srv is as good if not better than hendrix" and he is like no1 compares to hendrix!!! hendrix was an inspiration for a lot of ppl but idk, just he is overated. i hope this makes sense, i usually dont makes sense so w/e

I think Hendrix is very good, but he's very hyped... when people hear Hendrix they automaticly say he's good, greatest guitarist ever lived, blablabla... but a lot of them have no idea what there talking about, nor do they know what Hendrix is al about... As a guitar player and someone who knows his music very good, i can say he's not overrated, just overhyped....

Just because his estate is cashing in does not lessen his influence. Hendrix was and still is a great influence on many guitarists. His status as a guitar legend is more than deserved.

He was great for his time. He's definitely the most "important" guitarist in my opinion. He was a great songwriter and innovator. I just hate when people say things like well if he was alive today, he'd suck compared to everyone else. That is just ridiculous. Back in the 60's, nobody sweep picked arrpeggios or played at 200+ bpm so how the hell can you say he would suck.

this is a lil off topic but i hate when ppl say he was a classic rock guitarist when he was pretty straight blues, just he was the starter of the hole rock blues thing which evolved into most of what is out today.

Ummm.. here we go again.. Another one of those "is this person good"? or whatever threads, where the Hendrix lovers are going to rip apart the haters, etc...

I think that Hendrix, as far as songwriting goes, was great. But when he played live, he was sloppy and drunk and stoned. Not what I'd call the best.
