Re: Do you use reverb?

ive got it on for everything except heavy rythm playing. I normally have a 400ms delay repeating once or twice (cant remember) for most leads and clean rythms too.

Re: Do you use reverb?

I use the wet effects strictly when needed and as little as possible. Sometimes it's necessary if I'm playing in a place that has no natural reverb. Too much of the wet stuff ruins tone, IMHO.

I chose Hi. Not really I only use it when the situation requires it.

Re: Do you use reverb?

Depends on the tone i'm after. Any effect can sound good in the right place and bad in the wrong one imho.

Rock on!

Re: Do you use reverb?

I use reverb whenever I can, and it is a staple in my RP500 patches.

The reason why I have it on most of the time is because it can create the impression that the guitar was being played in a place different from where the player actually is. This becomes very useful for when you would like to blow people away with a huge sounding guitar tone but you can't turn the amp loud enough to cause natural echoing or you aren't in a particularly large venue.

A second reason why I have it is because (I might be wrong here) with moderate amounts of reverb, it allows lead guitar parts to sound distinguishable (same with delay) even with a band in a recording/live performance. Especially if the amp is only loud enough for you to be heard along with the other musicians in the band, some reverb can make your solos "jump out" and be heard more clearly.

Re: Do you use reverb?

I love my reverb. Makes you sound a lot louder than you actually are

It makes slow stuff more melodic and fast stuff sound more flowing and faster! Not to mention it makes guitar work w/out any other instruments sound 10x better and fuller.

The only problem with it is you have to turn it off whenever you play rythm, because you either shouldn't use any at all for that or A LOT less than you would for leads.

Anyone here use both reverb and delay at the same time?

Re: Do you use reverb?

Since I don't have any delay pedals, I use the reverb that comes with my amp (laney lv200). With that effect I can get nice Petrucci lead sounds (think of The Ministry of Lost Souls, The Best of Times, In The Presence of Enemies, etc).

I'll keep on using it until I buy real effects pedals.

Re: Do you use reverb?

Yes, I use the reverb on my Prosonic a bit.

Rarely use delay unless it's reverse delay.

No reverb pedals though. Give me a tank anyday.

Try youtubing John Petrucci Guitar Center and listen to what he has to say about his biggest influences. Specially Alex Lifeson. That will give you a heads up.

Re: Do you use reverb?

I use small traces of reverb for certain effects to avoid them sounding computerised.

Re: Do you use reverb?

Reverb is a funny thing!!! If your first ever amp never had it.....you want it really bad!! Then when you finally get it you play EVERYTHING with the reverb cranked to 10

Then you mature a little and realise you can change the settings and use a lot or a little depending on taste and situation

That's pretty true really. My first amp was a cheap fender with no controls other than Contour and Reverb (Plus clean/distortion channels), and I would always put reverb on 10 even though it got quite a bit noisier. but now recently with a better sounding amp and more reverb choices I either have it on zero, or a slight reverb, mayber occassionally something more moderate. However, I play with the EQ and gain controls like crazy now, as sometimes putting everything on 10 and mids at 0 sounds cool, sometimes cranking the mids sound cool too, etc.

(Though I still crank it on the clean channel, it makes your playing more natural)
