Do you use the tone control?

I have a Tele body blank which I'm currently deciding what electrics to put into it and I'm thinking about should I just have a volume and pup selector and forget about the tone control completely

I very rarely use the tone controls on any of my guitars so I was just wondering what you guys think.

Do you use the tone control on your guitars? Is it integral to getting your sound, or do you just experiment with it or just ignore it completely?

Re: Do you use the tone control?

I occasionaly use it. Only when playing on a clean setting though.

Probably just my pickups...but it seems to make distortion sound muddy and yucky.

I could happily live without it, the volume control gives a better variety of sounds imo.

Well there's no quicker way to modify your tone when playing..... that's for sure. But look at EVH and those original Kramer Baretta's just one pickup and a volume knob.... It doesn't get any simpler than that!

Re: Do you use the tone control?

tru dat! but i don't think i could live with out it... maybe put it sticking out of the side right next to the input jack to make some room for other interesting electricks? *did I hear someone say custom* lol

Re: Do you use the tone control?

My buddy playes a Tele, as do I. He plays in a great cover band covering 80's on up hits. He has his tone pot replaces with a mid boost. He rolls it of and brings it up on solo's. It works like a volume boost. If your interested, I'll find out more about it. I do plan on doing the mod to my Tele. My Tele is probably my favorite 'live' guitar. It just doesn't get any thicker than Tele tone.

I use it all the time! I'd never buy a guitar without one.

Re: Do you use the tone control?

it all depends on what type of music im playing, and even down to which part of the song.. i have a switch on my guitar that totally bypasses my volume AND tone controls, i can have them both turned down low for a somewhat warm, thick sound and then flip the switch and have a screaming lead sound.. i love it =)

Never use it, well apart from when I'm tuning the guitar!
