However, I cant listen to rusty's music, yet I can listen to Shawns. Unfortunately he is dead, but Shawn LAne was a prodigy among prodigies!
Agreed!

Re: Fastest Player.
My vote is Yngwie. And it's obvious from another post about picking from the wrist or elbow... Yngwie uses a combination of his thumb and wrist.

Re: Fastest Player.
I'd have to say that Rusty Cooley is definitely the fastest guitarist that I've ever seen. Right after him would probably be Michael Angelo and then the Malmsteen from the 80s.

Re: Fastest Player.
Malsteen. Just because i've seen him play and even though he comes across as extremely ****y (which is justified i guess) he's a great player.

Re: Fastest Player.
The fastest a guitarist can go and sound good is Eric Johnson's intro to Cliffs of Dover. Why go faster than that?

Re: Fastest Player.
Agreed! Eric Johnson rules. What a shame that he is not listed as a choice on this
poll.

Thanks, when EJ gets going very few guitarists are faster than him.

Re: Fastest Player.
I realise I'm slightly late on the uptake here (when did this thread even start?) and I may have even posted a couple of years back but don't have the time to look through all the posts.
Anyhoo..... I just took the time to listen to some Marcus Paus on line........ The guy is certainly rather rapid and quicker than I could ever be if I practised for the next billion years but WHERE's THE FEEL? There was nothing there except a flurry of notes!!
If that's your bag then cool but IMO the fastest guitarists who actually put some feeling into it have to be people like Shawn Lane or Paul Gilbert.
