If speed is THE most important thing then I guess Ibanez had better drop Vai & Satch and replace them with Impellatari & Michael Angelo.

Imagine if The Beatles had a shredder, they'd have been even more popular!

Damn, if EVH had just concentrated on playing faster rather than focussing on songwriting, Van Halen would have played even bigger stadiums

U2 really need to sack Edge and draft in Yngwie to increase their longevity

'Cause it the end of the day.......it's the fastest solo that in 10 / 20 /30 years that will be remembered

Yngwie, though awesome with his intensity and improv, isn't that "fast" compared to every other "virtuoso" guitarist out there. Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Michael Angelo, Michael Lee Firkins, could/can all smoke him in pure speed alone. All those players I mentioned also had/have a higher degree of precision than Yng does while playing fast. I vote Michael Angelo. His playing is somewhat soulless and computer like, but he is incredibly fast and accurate.

As far as the fastest player I have heard that had soul, songwriting skills, you name it, Jason Becker x 10 hands down. God bless him. He is still fighting.

That live tape is incredible. If you don't have it, get it. I can still remember hearing Mc Laughlin on the Shakti cassette for the first time. I was working at a Shell gas station, third shift. This dude brought it in for me to hear, because I was all into metal and I thought the metal guys were the best. The guy (John M) blazes the harmonic minor with such feeling and the tabla guy is sick!
