But, I'm faster than all of them put together. Smell my shredding steam... the stench of burning picks fills my mighty nostrils! Onward to Valhalla!

Nobody heard of Jason Becker ??? Just listen to those wild apreggios and shreds on Perpetual Burn album. In my opinion he's one of the fastest, too bad he's not able to play anymore...

Yep, Jason is pretty fast. But I'm suprised no one has mentioned George Bellas. Insanely fast and TASTEFUL (esp. "Mind Over Matter"). Check out his website and download some of his sample instructional passages -- he does some interesting sweeps.

Me? Not really :)

I used to listen to Impeliterri and laugh because he was so fast. John P. is way fast on his instructional video when he's going over how to play faster. I'm not familiar with the jazz guys. Yngwie always had much better songs than Impeliterri. Sorry, dude.

Wasn't there a guy in an 80's band called TNT who was pretty quick.

In fairness though, speed for speed sake is crap. I bought the Impeletari album and it was just garbage, I think that the 'speedsters' who can actually play are the ones that have lasted (although to varying degrees).

Steve, Joe, Paulo Gilberto, the Yng, etc etc.

Impelliblahaaaaaah, Michaelangwho-ever....who really cares?

Ronnie LeTekro.
Very cool guy and a monster player/songwriter, but I don't think he's up there with Cooley when it comes to the Speed Department.

By the way... Anyone heard of bassist from Manowar ??? I don't know his name but the way he picks those strings is amazing. Just listne to the song "Black Wind, Fire and Steel". Who cares that he play bass... he's really fast.

Impeliteri and Manowar

The Impeleteri album was not good, but the EP prior to the album was better.

The bass player in Manowar is Joey Dimaio...I think that's how you spell it. I saw him do his bass solo in S.F. last year. Yep, it was like watching a guitar solo. He uses light strings I believe.

Billy Sheehan too. Scary how he can duel Paul Gilbert without losing.
