Where do they come up with this numbers??? I'd really love someone to point out for me where it is tha Vai can be heard playing 20 notes in a second or where you can hear Yingwie playing 32.

Not that I have anything against these players or playing fast but I keep hearing these figures and they sond totally absurd to me!!!

Nah...... I'm a beguinner but I can reach about 8 notes a second. But that's playing non-musical scales to a metronome after a good hour of pre warm-up. I can see how a pro like Vai, GIlbert or Petrucci could easily reach, lets say 12 notes a second after 20+ years of playing. But anything over that in a single second sounds completely impossible to me.

Maybe if you sweep them... I'll give you the 15 mark but how can you go over that?!?!

What about such guitarists as Tony Macalpine and Chris Impelliteri? They are fast and not as boring as Yngwie. Kirk Hemmet? Who put that ******* up there? Does anyone here even consider him a guitarist?

Micheal Angelo hands down. Fastest,, but not the tastiest. All are capable of huge amounts of ass hauling fret work frills. But Mike is the speed freak,, totally.

I prefer Yngwie speed though over everyones,,, well maybe Vai when he decides to take the notes for a hell ride.

P.s. I'm surprised that now one on this site has done a study on how many notes are actually being played by who. If I had the brain power I would do it,,, I just weigh what I hear by the amount of jaw dropping confusion I feel when I hear it.

fast guitar player

lets say you are doing a buzzrole on a snare, how many notes per second do you think that is. I think that can be translated to the guitar, say you are picking real fast or sweeping or tapping or legato. i figure about 15 per sec is about all you can do with a buzzroll or sixteen i should say but i am no expert.

This poll is about "Speed". Both John and Frank can haul,,, but man they shouldn't even be put in the same category as Michael Angelo. Frank and John are "True musicians". Not speed freaks.

Not disputing that they're true musicians, but "not speed freaks?" Yeeeeaaaahh riiiight. You should listen to them sometime, because it sounds like you haven't.

Oh, and though I hate both of them, Rusty Cooley is way faster than Michael Angelo. Ha, Michael Angelo just sucks, period. He can't play anything tasty, and he's not even the fastest at playing crappy music.

Re: Fastest Player.

Those are all true comments, however if your focusing in terms of real speed, then doesnt Steve VAi hold the world record for the number of notes a second??? Therefore making him the Fastest and in my view the best, not just because of speed, player in the world.

Taken from this lesson....

http://www.chopsfromhell.com/guest_cooley_7ds1.html

I'm sorry, that's the sort of thing Vai plays to show off at like a quarter the speed Rusty hits it. Vai's fast, but we're talking a totally different ballpark.

PS - holy dead thread, batman...

Re: Fastest Player.

i think ive heard / seen every bloody video out there

Shawn LAne and Rusty Cooley. I give an edge to Lane though because he does stuff much more complicated.

Go download his videos and tell me you disagree (better yet buy them)

However, I cant listen to rusty's music, yet I can listen to Shawns. Unfortunately he is dead, but Shawn LAne was a prodigy among prodigies!
