Re: favorit trem

Tough question since i dont have an edge or lo-pro but in terms of control/feedback the trem on my old kramer focus 2000 (think it was an orginal floyd rose) was definately my favourite ,dont think it did flutters tho hmmmm..

My edge pro is ok ,ZR is ok but not stiff enough with back stop removed...

The most insane flutters I've had were always with the original Floyd. I always thought Ibanez trems were not as good in comparison when it comes to flutter.

Re: favorit trem

Yeh, I found that as well.

My favourites are Lo-pro, Edge, Edge-Pro (with stud mod) and then OFR. But tbh I'd be happy with any of those trems on my guitars.

hard choice between Edge and Lo-Pro, but the '80s nostalgia is strong in me, so...

Re: favorit trem

Lo-Pro was always my favourite by a long shot.

I just prefer the profile and feel of it more so than the Original Edge trem.

Re: favorit trem

I like the Original Edge as far as performance but I like the story behind the Lo-TRS. The Lo-TRS was designed by Fritz Katoh who was Ibanez's head designer at the time. It was 1990-1991 when the "Shredder Guitar" was still booming before Nirvana's "gift of Armageddon" in 1992. Ibanez was just looking to create all kinds of differant options for their guitars (hardware, body shapes, pickups). Katoh designed the Lo-TRS to be something differant than the Edge...NOT BETTER, just differant. It was suppossed to be used for Japan guitars only and was placed on a few initially. In 1991 the Korean EX guitars were released and they had a problems with their generic licensed Floyd Rose locking trems and it was becoming a well known problem hurting sales. So, Ibanez sent over the Lo-TRS to the Korean factories and had them use that to fix the problem for the 92 model. If you look at a 92 catalog, you will see them promoting the new bridge. Eventually, the Lo-TRS made its way back to be only on some Japan models and the cheaper Lo-TRS II became the bridge on the Korean models and the "EX" name was dropped. As you know, the Lo-TRS II has since been replaced by the EDGE III and the Lo-TRS is no longer.

Re: favorit trem

actually the Lo-TRS works great if well setup. not as great as its big bros of course, though. if it only had smaller "wings" it would look way better and less cheaper.

Re: favorit trem

Indeed, the Lo-TRS isn't a bad bridge at all. From Jim Donahue:

http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/disc...6484/6629.html

Quote:
The RG470 had three different tremolo's over the years and each has a different rout and stud style. I would guess you have the later one that has the LO-TRS on it, Actually this is a Japanese bridge that is not a bad bridge, the Korean one the Lo-TRSII is the one people don't like.

The TRS is the Takeuchi TRS-101. This was not used on any models that came into the USA except for the 1997-1998 RG340 that was made at Peerless factory in Pusan Korea.(Peerless is actually a sub branch of IIda Gakki in Japan)

Takeuchi makes the Lo-TRS also for Ibanez. Actually they are very well made. I did a rockwell test on it and it is just as hard as a Schaller Floyd, Takeuchi has a secret way of hardening the plates, I went there but they would not show me the system, It is sort of like the Bush's baked been secret recipe.

I know some of these tremolo's were shipped to other countries on some lower prices RG models. Some made in Japan, Probably the Early 1990's.

Re: favorit trem

My MIJ 2002 RGR450LTD that I recently bought NOS has a Lo-TRS. When I got the guitar, everyone was telling me to switch out the trem for an original Floyd Rose Pro or Gotoh (and I was going to). Well, after doing the research on it, I found out it was the Lo-TRS II not the original Lo-TRS that had issues. It works fine for me thus far and I like the story behind it. So, I'm just going to keep it. I think the combination of being used on the Korean guitars for a period of time (esp when they got off to a rough start) and the "cancer" of Lo-TRS II tainted the original Lo-TRS. It may not be as nice as the Edge, but still is a solid trem.
