Re: Favorite shredder??

I'd say Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine, Jason Becker, and Paul Gilbert... maybe even in that order.

I kind of thought the opposite. I felt like Satch and Vai were running circles around Yngwie during the jam. Yngwie just kept playing the same thing while Joe and Steve where improvising more. Don't get me wrong I like Yngwie but I just saw him as a one trick pony compared to Joe and Steve.

Re: Favorite shredder??

I dont consider Vai and Satch shredders... more like inovators who shred sometimes..

I voted Paul Gilbert, cause that guy has the shred down pat... Love him

Oh christ, really?? That's one of those songs that should be left alone. Particularly by Malmsteen.

After attending a whole-day Master Class with Satch I now have a personal connection with him and guess I'd lean more toward Joe as an overall player - he's just one of the nicest, down to earth guys I've ever met.
I voted for Yngwie simply because he encompasses the whole "shred" thing. I have to say, yngwies lack of versatility really showed through on that G3 Jam. They had to turn him almost completely off in the mix because he was just playing the same mindless lick over what satch and vai were playing.. It was completely tasteless. He's amazing at what he does "shred" but he's not nearly as diverse and knowledgeable as the others.

Ron Thal aka Bumblefoot. Crazy technique. And sometimes fretless!

Re: Favorite shredder??

It's impossible ha there are too many amazing players on that list. I guess to me it's between Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, and Vinnie Moore.

Ah dude! I know him too. He's awesome and he puts a ton of melody in his songs. He's like a mix of Paul Gilbert and Vinnie Moore.
