Re: Favorite shredder??

I pretty much have to vote for Yngwie on these polls, but Vai is always a very close second. At the moment my third pick would probably be Tony MacAlpine. I have been listening to his new album, the tracks he plays on in Derek Sherinian's new album, and Devil's Slingshot like crazy.

YJM FTW.

"Altitudes" is probably my favorite from him but i enjoyed "Air" and "Perpetual Burn". Man i just loved the whole album...

I didn't even notice that Eddie Van Halen wasn't on the list

Since "shredding" basically revolves around tapping, sweeping and legato (with an emphasis on tapping ) more than alternate-picking, I'm surprised Al Di Meola, who's stickily an alternate-picker, got on the list and Van Halen didn't?!? Odd...

Re: Favorite shredder??

Yngwie is the reason I even picked up a guitar back in 1985 and still is my all time favorite but Michael Romeo has completely blown me away with each new CD Symphony X releases. He gives Yngwie major props a huge inspiration too. Romeo's two handed technique is also the most mind blowing I have seen since Reb Beach.

Re: Favorite shredder??

Love most of the guys on the list. My current fave is Richie Kotzen, but not really sure if it's for his shred as much as it is for ability to play like that and sing at the same time.
