Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
RI as a whole sucks... sorry, not necesarily suck, but i just feel that way... It has a lot of beautiful elements in it, lots of nice parts, riffs and melodies, but it also has a lot of "freak show excess" (no pun intended) has parts in it that just seem to be there for the sake of it, detracting from the whole feel/vibe thing... Doesnt have the "complete-ness" feel other albums have, certainly doesnt have the "flow" Fire Garden has...
btw, by Fire Garden i mean the 1st part, up till the suite... I dont care for the sung part... i wish Steve had got away with making it a double cd, so CD1 was just PERFECT

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
Well... Hard to pick one. I really do like FG actually. But 2nd part with vocals, hmm, how i can i say
not as great as instrumental part. By the way RI is nice, also. But not as FG, imho. FG has some new ideas according to the past discography but RI does not has new or original ides as much as past discography has....
So i pick FG...

Markg5150 is not gonna like this poll!
Just check out this poll be posted:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51991
Anyways, I like RI better. Firegarden is bigger and more eclectic, but RI just has an overall cooler vibe, to me. It's a bit heavier, you know? But, it's a matter of taste. It would have been cooler if you posted a poll, which included all of
Steve Vai
's albums. Of course, the outcome of that poll would be very predictable: Passion and warfare.
For me, it's The ultra zone. With RI following as a close second.
Kind regards,
Myst and rain

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
I really like both albums a lot. In fact I love all Steves work, I went with firegarden merely cuz it was my first Vai album.

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
Both albums are good..... but I'd have to say Sex & Religion is the best Vai album.

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
I went with Fire Garden because it was my first Vai album. I love RI though. I really like all of Steve's work I hope to one day have such a body of wonderful material!

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
Fire Garden eases into the lead again
I voted FG coz i too have found RI hard to get into (like marianozz says).
Thats my only gripe with Vai, he often puts "weirdness" in for the sake of it and it puts me off listening, even though i do appreciate his creativity.

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
Fire Garden wins without a doubt for me. It's more music, and the sound is "raw"-er to me. Real Illusions is still phenominal, but there's something so polished about it. Fire Garden still has Vai's more erratic edge to me. That said, I love both albums

Re: Fire Garden Vs Real Illusions
i like fire garden over RI. The music is more easy to listen to . more down to earth let's say. i personally love the songs with vocals.
