Its unealthy to not have perspective about your playing. Its never easy to have perspective, but feeling like your not as good as someone always seems like a great excuse to practice more...

Yep, no matter how good I think I am, which isn't very good. A short search on youtube will show what a poser I am. And I'm ok with that. I know that if I really wanted to reach higher levels of skill, I could with the time it would take, but it's just not all that important right now.

Youtube has made me realise that there are loads of players better than me, but even more of them made me realise I'm decent.

Speed and being able to copy someones music with none stop practise can be achieved by almost any guitarist, but being unique in your soloing and write your own music will always seperate you from the pack.

I love youtube and watching guitar masturbation. I did it as a teen on my guitar, but now im more about creating new sounds and new music....

its the only way to fly.....

I've never really seen a cover or anything done by non-professionals that has really blown me away and made me think I suck. The truth is a lot of those guys try to play way beyond their ability or just plain don't practice enough.

But honestly I don't care. I play entirely for my own enjoyment and I enjoy what I'm doing. No problem.

It used to really bother me when I realised I was never going to be as good as I wanted to be and I even gave up a few years ago. But since I picked up the guitar again, I think like you

99,99% of players suck, it's those rare one that don't that made me realise just how much my playing sucks.

The great thing about youtube is that it also shows how much some professionals suck (heroes of mine even) EvH, Kirk, Slash.

The good thing is that it has also confirmed the greatness of some others.

I don't need youtube to validate me as a player and neither should any of you!
That said, I try for one-takes and leave mistakes in some of my songs. Check it out on myspace. LOL!
If I ever do youtube it'll be to promote my own stuff, not to take part in any sort of **** festival! Music is self-expression, not a contest!

I am however, not steve vai, satch, petrucci, evh, kirk hammett, or any other number of the THOUSANDS of guys out there that have invested more time, effort and desire than me.
