Has youtube made you realise you suck?

IMO, thinking you "suck" is bad juju! I always thought of the Grand Canyon when learing. It took a LONG A$$ time for the water to erode that thing! If you keep at it you WILL get better in the long-term.
It's all relative anyway. Some people think Hendrix, EVH, or Frank Zappa suck but I think they're genius. Frank was no Yngwie, but I defy you to find phrasing as good as his!
Also, I'm willing to bet even Satch and Vai would find kids on youtube and go "WOW!" No matter how good you are, there will always be someone better.
It's really useless to consider music in such terms.
Just play yer guitar and be happy!

I think its good to see amazing talent on youtube, as going by the local music scene all you ever see is the same old bar chords or drop D tuning on E string so they dont use more than their index finger. And what with modern music scene besides the ongoing bands from 80's it looked like that no one bothered anymore.

So i think it's re-assuring to see that there are still a lot of people out there practising to death to be outstanding

Youtube just made me realize that they're more musicians out there than those who're selling all the music that I do or don't buy. Some of those musicians are great. Others not.

Another thing that youtube made me realize is just how many guitar players take shredding/soling a little too seriously. There're plenty of shreding videos on youtube, but few of them are musical and artistic to me. Probably because those guys are selling records, lol.

I always knew I sucked. Youtube changed nothing. lol

My favorite is that clip from the Japanese show with all the screaming girls and the prairie dog; the source for that "intense prairie dog" thing that everyone was viewing.
The original makes me laugh EVERY time! Especially when the host brings the prairie dog out and the girls go bonkers! Hilarious!

I always knew I sucked. I use it as an excuse to my wife to buy more gear. 'Honest dear, a new guitar will make me a better player!'. Too bad that she is too smart for that b.s.

Most of the players on YouTube are all smoke and mirrors, the ones that aren't are usually robots. The pity is that audiences applauded some of the dodgier performances I've seen. Seriously, backing tracks seem to do buckets of the work for them.

i didnt vote on this one,even though its a very interesting thread.i watch youtube just about everyday,i admire anyone who can play as i know how difficult learning guitar can be.but what makes me angry is folk saying this ones shreds fast than the other one and so on.ill admit im not the best guitarist but i dont care,having said that i am decent and can play covers just as good as the next man.put some of these youtube wizards in a band and i bet most of them wouldnt have a clue.just practice practice practice and have faith in your own abilitys and most of all ENJOY.

Youtube hasn't changed my self opinion at all. If anything, it has broadened my horizons.
