Re: HH vs HSH

All 4 of my guitars are HH if that says anything.. Just like the tone control, the middle single is useless.

Re: HH vs HSH

HSH. Or, SSH. But not really a big fan of HH. Doin' it on my third guitar because its going to be sorta LP-styled and HSH just wouldnt really look right (plus im trying Carvin actives with the module).

Re: HH vs HSH

HSH for me. It just looks better that way although I'm crazy for single coil tone in the neck.

Re: HH vs HSH

I'm in favor of the HSH set-up....But, that's because I've got my eyes set on an Ibanez S470DXQM right now ....And I do have plans for those PUPs.

Re: HH vs HSH

I prefer HH greatly over HSH due to my love of combining the sou dof both humbuckers into a nice sweet sound. For me it's all out distortion on the bridge pickup which is great for leads or a nice chugga chugga but then if I want to go smoother, I switch to the in between and use both. All that's left is the neck for only cleans which works out well. Coil splitting is fun .

Re: HH vs HSH

the middle single coil always gets in the way of my pick so its H-H all the way for me

Re: HH vs HSH

All my guitars have been HH until I bought a Prestige, but that's changed now Coil-tapped, I get more usable tones than a mid pickup, and I had a Blue Velvet before I modified my RG to HH.

Re: HH vs HSH

I used to only play H-H's until I bought a HSH and fell in love with the tone options.

Re: HH vs HSH

I'm a an HSS or H-S guy myself but I don't really find all the split tones that useful so I guess I like HH better. Of course, if I wanna do some SRV or some blues I find the split neck and mid single coils useful on an HSS but not the neck hum and mid single of a HSH config guitar. HH certainly looks beter to me.

Over a year ago I said this and I take it back. I find positions 2 and 4 (what I meant by "split tones") to be super useful these days. I'm using them all the time. And for a main guitar I wouldn't choose a guitar if I couldn't do that.

1. HSS

2. HSH

3. SSS

4. HH

Yea, but I think that depends more on the guitar than on the pickup configuration.
Ibanez puts in a 5-way switch in their H-H guitars, so you still get 'split tones'.
And on old Strats you get a 3-way switch, so you don't have those 2 and 4 'in-between' positions.
I personally like a guitar which can give me both humbucker and single-coil style sounds. It doesn't really matter to me if it has real single-coils or uses split humbuckers, as long as it sounds good.
For me, I'd rate a regular 5-way H-S-S higher than a regular 3-way H-H for that reason.
However, if the H-H has a coil split/tap option with either a push-pull knob or with a 5-way switch like Ibanez uses, then I would prefer it over the H-S-S, because I'd be able to get neck humbucker sounds out of this setup aswell.

Re: HH vs HSH

I prefer the HSH on my RG2550.
I actually use all positions on the 5 way switch, depending on the sound I want.

HSH for me. I really don't use the middle positions much, but everytime I do I get some good tones out of them.
