Re: HH vs HSH

HH for me. I personally find configurations using the middle pickup useless.

never thought about it until now, but I traded my S470 for an rga121 (HSH to HH) and my strat for a tele (sss for ss- ditch that middle)

Re: HH vs HSH

Altough I fell in love with the versatility of the HSH, the single-coil gets in the way of my picking. HH with a super-5-way switch also gets the job done.

So... HH. HSH only when extremely necessary.

Re: HH vs HSH

well since I use the the HSH with only the 2 Humbucker's wired in I just pack the single coil down as far as I can (ie basically flush with the body) so I still have the look and it doesnt get in the way :P

Re: HH vs HSH

I really like both HH and HSH. Never had a HSS guitar, and only one SSS guitar which was my first guitar (which was the strat copy that everyone has had lol)

I love the pickups in my Les Paul, they are both Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro IIs, and I never use the middle position.. always bridge or neck.

For my Ibanez guitars, being a Jem and a modified RG which has PAF Pros in it, I never use the single on its own, but single with bridge gives the best clunky funky tone ever. Clean, single and neck is just liek the neck humbucker but way less boomy, so i use that a lot.

I shall eventually invest in guitars with the other two configurations as they may end up being what i like more.

Re: HH vs HSH

I generally prefer H-H, I'm usually hitting the middle single coil with my pick. Plus, more recently, I have come to the realization that I'm just not going to get SRV-type tone on a Ibanez, which would be the only reason for me to use the middle s/c.

Re: HH vs HSH

i gave up on hsh a LONG time ago. for me, the perfect clean tone a strat in the 4th position, but i have never been able to get that out of an ibanez. it always sounds way too thin and anemic. (and yes, the phase was correct. ha ha.) plus i kept hiting it with my pick, and by the time you lower it enough to get it out of the way, the sound is adversely affected. NOW i prefer HH with a 3 way switch augmented with a push pull vol pot to tap the neck humbucker. not a bad clean tone at all.

Re: HH vs HSH

I like HSH on floyd guitars but prefer HH on fixed bridges. I used all 5 positions on an HSH. On fixed bridges I usually keep the bridge on and maybe will switch to the neck humbucker for cleaner tones, or for reggae or funkier stuff.
