HH vs HSH

HH vs HSH?

I do prefer HH over HSH config. Less cluttered, looks better, and IMO additional split tones are definitely not worth losing those sleek HH looks. And on a serious side, tones like split neck + middle s don't really have any real big advantage over split HH.

Re: HH vs HSH

IMO it depends on the guitar. I love the 570 and 550 not just for their looks, but for the versatility of the HSH config. I know you can get something close with HH, but splititng the neck hum and the single or the single and splitting the bridge hum IMO gets some fun tones.
Quilt tops, though, IMO look better HH.

Re: HH vs HSH

I would certainly agree that I never use middle single coil on it's own!
However I do like the single coil combinations on the other positions so I couldnt really do away with it...
I suppose the best for me would be to replace the middle on it's own in position 3 with say inside coils of both HBs

I have a couple of guitars with the double poled bridge position Dimarzios in the center position. Kind of cool getting an HHH config from a HSH... kind of.

Re: HH vs HSH

I like the middle coil, and I often use the in-between setting of middle coil and bridge.

Re: HH vs HSH

Ibanez with the 5-way switching H-H setup is fine, but if we're talking about a Gibson-style 3-way H-H setup, then H-S-H is definitely my choice.

Re: HH vs HSH

I use the lone singlecoil as much as any other pickup combination on my Jem, beautiful rhythm tone, I'd dare say I use the "in between" combinations more than I use the humbuckers by themselves.

I'm starting to be more and more convinced that SSS is the perfect configuration for my tastes.

Re: HH vs HSH

The Stratocaster S-S-S setup is nice, although I can't think of many people who use the single coil neck pickup. Maybe just SRV and Eric Johnson.

I've toyed with the idea of PAFPro-Area61-PAF as a pickup combination. That way you have a low noise vintage strat sound that you could use alone, or blend with the PAF-based pickups. The output wouldn't be even between pickups, but I'm not sure how much of a concern that would be. I've always liked PAFs as rhythm pickups.

Re: HH vs HSH

It's weird for me, my 2 favorite guitars contain both. JEM & PRS SC are my 2 favorite. I think HH looks better, but not on a JEM. Overall and most guitars I like HH only, but these are my 2 favorites.

HSH forever.
I love the sound of the single together with the bridge or neck humbs.

Re: HH vs HSH

All 4 of my guitars are HH if that says anything.. Just like the tone control, the middle single is useless.

Re: HH vs HSH

HSH. Or, SSH. But not really a big fan of HH. Doin' it on my third guitar because its going to be sorta LP-styled and HSH just wouldnt really look right (plus im trying Carvin actives with the module).

Re: HH vs HSH

HSH for me. It just looks better that way although I'm crazy for single coil tone in the neck.
